I had a piece of verse text selected (highlighted) in note that had a link already created. Right clicked mouse on selection to paste a new verse to replace the selected verse text. Crash.

Yes, it's the same crash error for me and I can reproduce using your steps.
[Crash error is "InvalidOperationException: Cannot split 'Hyperlink' element at this position."]
But I'm using 4.0c, SR-1 (4.03.3.9838) not 4.0d Beta 1
