Okay, pronounce Louw-Nida please! :-)

Is it Low-Naida... Loo-Needa...? How on earth do you pronounce it?!
Thanks!

Yep, sounds good to me; but I’ve also heard it pronounced La-oo—Nah-ee-dah so sorry if doubt sinks in again 😜

I have always heard it pronounced Low-Nyda, and that is how it is pronounced in this Logos training video.

I don't Nida person to pronounce it for me. Louw and behold, I can pronounce it all by myself.

I am inclined to stick to the old ways and pronounce the names "Low (and behold) NIGH-da."
Another itch that needs scratched is Nestle and Aland.Nestle: NEST-lay / NEST-lee / NESS'l
Aland: Ah-LAHND / Uh-LAND
But that might be for another thread.

Well folks, these have all been most entertaining answers to my question, THANKS!
I think I'm going to go with Low-Naida (like Oneida, the cutlery people!)
As for Nestle-Aland, I've always said NEST-lee-Alan-with-a-D

Hmmm. I wonder if my wife knows your wife. [;)]Doc B said:DAL said:The official Logos video and the wife are correct!
The wife is always correct. At least, that's what mine says.
Truth be told, my wife has an uncanny sense of direction, so whenever we're driving on back-roads and forestry roads, I always trust her judgement regarding the direction we're heading and which fork in a road to take. Seems she's always right. Hard on my ego, but I've never been lost when she was with me--something I have managed to accomplish a couple of times when I've been on my own. [:O]

If it was good enough for the Apostle Paul, it's good enough for me.

Since Mrs. Nida gave a definitive answer, and since Johannes P. Louw was born, raised and educated in South Africa, perhaps a South African brother or sister could enlighten us.
Since it has been discussed in past threads that Logos is not even consistent in pronouncing its own name https://community.logos.com/forums/t/119401.aspx I'm afraid I'm not really trusting their videos for a definitive answer.[:|]

I asked one of my best friends who is from SA. He said "Lo". [:)]
I grew up uncertain whether or not my own last name had a voiceless or a voiced "th". Now I'm old enough to make up my own rules.
