indexing

I am noticing that every time I close logos and reopen it that it is indexing my books all over again and it is slowing down Logos. It is to the point where I am not able to study efficiently, because I would get the thinking wheel on my mac. Therefore, would just go to my iPad or the web app, but those platforms don't have everything that the desktop version has. Has anyone had these same problem or can help me? Thanks

To know what is happening, a techie would need to look at logs. Please review the link in my signature line to learn how to enable, capture and post logs.

Description implies indexing is not completing (humanly have no clue for cause without diagnostic logs). When Logos is opened, Indexer looks for resource(s) to index and merge. When Index is up to date, the check takes a few seconds. Indexing is computer resource intensive so minimizing contention allows Indexing to complete sooner

    • Close Logos
    • Enable Diagnostic Logging => Report a Problem in Logos | Mac
    • Close other program(s)
    • Restart Mac
    • Login to Mac (so Indexing starts)
    • Wait for Indexing to complete (Blue icon in task bar disappears)
    • Use Logos Logging Utility to create zip file
    • Open program(s)
    • Reply to this forum thread & attach zip for review

If Library Indexing completed successfully, then Indexer.log file will have an informational message:

LibraryIndex | Main index is built; deleting supplemental index.

FYI: building 22 GB Library Index (for 27K resources) on a 27" iMac with 4GHz i7, 16 GB Ram & SSD took 2 hours 20 minutes. When indexing lots on a MacBook Air, personally use a laptop cooler.

I see maybe something similar.  It does not say indexing.  But frequently when I open L8 I hit the library button and I see the yellow line saying it is preparing my library etc.

The larger your library, the more frequently you will see that. FL is continually updating resources. Even if you don't make any purchases, you will have resources being downloaded and indexed.

Opening L8 causes many database actions to happen, which includes "Updating Collection Cache" that takes ~14 seconds for my library with 27k resources. If a collection search takes longer than 250ms, then that LibraryCatalogIndex search appears in Logos.log along with time taken. Currently have four collections with longish cache search, which is a substantial reduction (previously took several minutes prior to deleting a number of collections).

Some Library actions (e.g. Title modification) also cause a yellow line to appear.

FYI: for beta testing, personally have diagnostic logging enabled.
