8.2 b3 Info panel delay

I have my info panel set to click and have only 1 or two sections expanded. When I have wifi on but with an exceptionally slow connection, there's a LONG (a couple seconds) lag before the panel updates after a click. When I simply turn off my wifi connection, the update is instant. These sections are NOT internet dependent, so please don't even look at my internet connection! Even in places (throughout the software) where there are internet dependent features, please let the non-dependent features take priority and not get held back.

Hi Reuben,
I've created a case to have it checked into. It would be helpful to get your logs and what sections are open.

Thanks Philana. I have the Word Info and/or Other References open. The most effective way to replicate this is probably if you throttle your internet connection down to 5 KB/s (yeah, that's right)! Having trouble getting my logs folder to upload... I'll try again in the morning.

So Reuben, Word Info does require an internet connection because it is getting information from our servers about the lemma. So the slow internet connection would cause the results to be slow. I'll certainly ask the team to see if this can be improved.

I would beg to differ. It may be wanting an internet connection in order to receive additional information, but it works super well as soon as I turn off my wifi. This illustrates my point beautifully: don't let internet dependent features throttle the speed for offline features!
BTW, here are two screenshots showing the section w/ & w/o WiFi. I can see no difference which means any additional info is not benefitting the end user. What's more, even if there was info (e.g. the sense data in my screenshots) that needed info, the rest of the info should populate instantly without waiting on the internet. This is, of course, even more frustrating when Info is set to Hover.

Compare my result:

No, I had those other sections turned off (do they even make Strong's number any more?! 😜). Also, the manuscript and Strong's sections, don't show when using the LHB (which is what I was doing).

In the resource where you are using the Information panel, the Word Info section in the tool is going to the internet to look for additional data and not finding any. In other resources, such as some commentaries, when clicking on lemmas in the text, you will see a difference when running online vs. offline.
Philana has written up a case for us to consider making changes to how this information is displayed to improve the situation you are seeing. I have no information about when or if these changes will be made.

Thanks for the explanation, Andrew. Please do favorably consider removing performance bottlenecks like these! I would urge for an audit to be done throughout the program to evaluate this issue. There's no reason that performance should decay for offline features when online! FWIW, I consider Word Info to be an offline feature. Yeah, sure, there might be differences/additions when online, but the core functionality is offline.
