Need Systematic Theology help...

Forgive me if this has been asked & answered, but navigating the forums is difficult, and I figured it'd be easier to just start a new thread.

Could someone out there please recommend a Systematic Theology book (preferably one for Logos, of course) which has the following views...?

1.) A (moderate) cessationist view of spiritual gifts

2.) Advocates a replacement theology (this concerns the relationship between Israel and the Church)

3.) Follows Historic Premillennialism (or is at least NOT dispensational)

4.) Teaches human depravity (or is at least NOT Arminian)

5.) Upholds sola scriptura and the inerrancy of scripture

Even 4 out of 5 would be nice. Online book reviews can only tell you so much. Thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head, one that I can think of is Millard Erickson's Christian Theology. https://www.logos.com/product/29621/christian-theology-3rd-ed

There's also an abridged edition, Introducing Christian Doctrine: https://www.logos.com/product/52204/introducing-christian-doctrine-third-edition But for the price, I'd stick with the full version.

I don't recall his view on point #2 but am pretty sure he hits all the others. It's a fairly standard and widely used evangelical text.

BTW, most Arminians uphold #4.

Many search results were found in Gulley's Systematic Theology (3 vols.) followed by Garrett's Systematic Theology , Enns The Moody Handbook of Theology, Revised and Expanded and Strong's Systematic Theology (3 vols.)

FYI: my Logos library includes Systematic Theologies Collection (183 vols.)

Searched Systematic Theology resources in my Logos Library for:

Nearly all theologies address contrary viewpoints, so more would be needed to narrow down the search for works that largely fit the OPs criteria.

Andrew, (very) generally speaking, many baptist theologies would fit your criteria for 1, 4, and 5 but less likely for 2 and 3.

Conservative reformed (presbyterian and other) theologies would meet all except for 3 as most are either a- or post-mill. As they write an awful lot of the systematics theologies widely available, that's a good place to start. Louis Berkhof's Systematic Theology is a very accessible and widely used work in this category. These fit all of your criteria except for premillennialism:

A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith by Robert Reymond

Systematic Theology by Louis Berkhof

The Christian Faith by Michael Horton

Dogmatic Theology by WGT Shedd

Systematic Theology by Douglas Kelly

If you're looking for the reformed historic premil view see Wayne Grudem's ST:

Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem (the problem here is that he doesn't meet your first criterion: he is not cessationist.

My opinions:

Grudem's is probably the easiest for a beginner. Berkhof and Shedd are classics (Shedd can be a bit too philosophical for some and he's not as balanced in his treatment of subjects as more traditional STs). Horton, Kelly, and Reymond are "new"-ish. Horton is more conversant with various perspectives (people like Barth) than Reymond. I have only skimmed Kelly so I can't comment on it. I would probably go with Horton, personally.

I've also had Culver's ST recommended to me. Any thoughts on that one?

It's been a long time since I've read Erickson, I recall that he takes some different positions than I think is traditional in Reformed circles (amyraldian? I don't recall really). Don't know about Culver.

I have Erickson's 2nd ed. in print There's a blurb from J.I. Packer on the back, describing it as "robustly evangelical, essentially conservative, thoroughly contemporary, firmly Baptist, gently Calvinistic [he's a 4-pointer, not 5], and cautiously post-tribulationist premillennial". I'm not most of those things, and though I think the work is a little on the dry side, it's a well-regarded standard textbook and deservedly so. Definitely to be preferred over Grudem.

I have Culver's but haven't acquainted myself with it yet.

What is your impression of Culver's ST?
