How to I find all the Notes that are NOT in a Notebook?
I'm trying to find all of the notes I made after upgrading to Logos 8 that didn't get assigned to a Notebook. I thought I could just go to the Notes tool and filter on 'No notebook' but when I look in that filter section I only see the notebooks that I do have, I don't see an option for 'No notebook.' However, I know that I created notes that didn't make it into a notebook when I first upgraded and was still getting used to things. I even created a test note without a notebook to make sure I hadn't already gone through and assigned everything to a Notebook and I still don't see a 'No notebook' option in the filter list. What's the best/quickest way to find all of the notes that are not in a notebook?

Sorry I can't help apart from noticing that you don't seem to have a scroll bar which I get when the list reaches the bottom of the panel.
And I can just see that you have 'Filters' selected rather than 'Note Books'
For some reason your screen shot does not open to full display when clicked on (which is a first for me) how did you attach it?

Good question. I use the mobile app (iOS) to find them, but haven't figured out how to do it on the desktop.

I have fully expanded the notebooks section on the filters tab AND I've check for 'No notebook' under the Notebooks tab and I do see it anywhere. Are you able to see it on yours?
I attached the screenshot using the paperclip icon in the forums like I always do. I always make them the same size too, 550x550. Is there a better way to do it?

I just went through the list of notebooks and added up the numbers of all the notes in my notebooks. I have 6300 notes assigned to notebooks and 6328 notes total. So I have 28 notes just floating in there without a notebook. I can only use the "Date created" filter for the last 30 days. There are only 3 notes without a notebook in that time period, so most of them are probably closer when I first upgraded.
How do I find and isolate those notes that are not in notebooks so that I can assign them to notebooks? There is not a option for "No notebook" either in the filter tab or in the notebooks tab.

Kiyah, while I don't necessarily endorse your approach of everything having to be in a notebook, I do think there should be "no notebook" and "no tag" filter facets (there aren't). The only way I know of to do this currently is to actually open the notes database in a sqlite manager. I would perhaps create a "Temp" notebook and create one new note assigned to it. Then open the DB and find that one one (you could simply sort by created date or search the folded content for something in the content field of your note. Once you locate your note, copy the Notebook ID, then find the notes without a Notebook ID and copy that value in.
Disclaimer: I haven't tested copying a value, but don't see why it wouldn't work.

In fact, this goes against how the new Notes Tool is designed. There are only a handful of reasons why a notebook would need to be created in the first place. However, I agree that we should be able to filter for items that are not in a notebook.

I'm not really at a point where I've changed my process for the new notes tool. I've historically just made notes on the fly, but at least they were always in a notebook. I've never really invested much thought in how I use notes, either with the old tool or the new tool. I don't really think I have ever fully understood how the old tool worked. I plan to better utilize the new tool in the future. But right now, I'm just trying to find and account for all the notes I added when I was still getting used to the new tool and didn't realize that the notes weren't being added to the last used notebook (I realize that's been fixed with 8.2).
Since I haven't started using tagging yet because I don't have a definite system, I'm just trying to find a quick way to get all the notes identified and categorized before I start thinking about what kind of tagging framework I want to use. But right now, these notes are just floating around amidst all the other notes with no tags and no notebook. I'm just trying to identify the quickest/easiest way to find them all a put them in a notebook since right now that's the only method of categorization I have.

Bummer. Well, at least there are only 28 of them. However, the former accountant in me doesn't like the idea of having data just floating around out there unaccounted for. The fact that the filters don't add up to the total really bothers me. As a former financial accounting systems person, that's just unacceptable. There should be a "No notebook" filter so that the numbers add up to the total.

Do not modify your notes database in a SQLite editor.
It is very likely that local changes (made outside of the Logos 8 application) will not sync to other devices and may corrupt your local copy. In the worst case, you would have to delete your local database and re-sync everything from our servers, losing all your unsynced local changes.

I thought you might bestir yourself, Bradley! 😉If you don't provide a way to find our data in the UI (still need creation/mod timestamps as well), then you force us to tamper with the guts. In Kiyah's case where there are only 28 notes, it may be feasible to simply use a SQLite editor to find the relevant notes, check the contents (or other fields), then find those one-by-one in L8 and assign to a Notebook. This would satisfy your do not modify "prohibition" and still account for the floating notes.

I have never fiddled with the size of screen shots. Just saved them to to the desktop and inserted them using the paper clip.
Normally when I click on a screen shot the picture expands to the size of the monitor and I can examine the detail of the layout. With yours it simply did not react to a click.
You might like to compare the reaction of yours to expanding with this one or the ones posted above by Reuban?

Bradley, do you have any suggestions of how to find my unassigned notes? Or is possible the notebook filters to be updated to include a "No notebook" filter? Otherwise I don't know how else I'll be able to isolate these notes.

I just noticed today that a "No notebook" filter has been added. I'm guessing it was in 8.5 since I didn't notice it before then. Thanks for adding this! Now all of my notes are accounted for. [:)]

It looks like this was omitted from the release notes, but I think it was first included in Logos 8.4. Sorry we forgot to follow up and post that the feature had shipped.
