New Bugs in Notes
I just upgraded to 8.2...and here are my observations and gripes:
- The font color is now defaulting to black...that's a plus. Much appreciated.
- The symbol and color of the icon is now changing to the previous symbol used...better, but I would still like to set a default symbol and color
- The font size is still 11, and there is no way to change it to a default size. PLEASE FIX THIS! I am burning up so much time re-sizing my notes without making the footnote numbers all distorted (I can elaborate on this if I'm not clear)
- WHY, when I have set my default font to SF Compact Pro, does all of my notes somehow default to Trebuchet? That was not happening with 8.1. So now I not only have to change the font size, NOW I have to change the FONT itself! You're KILLING me here!
PLEASE make these fixes so that I can cut the time I'm burning in re-formatting my notes to my preferences!

Update on my issues...
The default font I am using (SF Compact Text) is utilized when I type in notes myself. I am using that font for all of my resources as well.
However, when I copy and paste text from, say, a commentary into my note, the pasted text defaults to Trebuchet. So I have to manually change not only the font size, but now I have to scroll down the font selections (I can't even type an S to get to the fonts beginning with S) to get to SF Compact Text.
Buggy...please fix!

I agree, the ability to set a default font and size is a must. Formatting notes is tedious and inefficient as it is.

Am I to assume that the absence of any response from a Logos expert means that this problem is something unique only to me, that no one else sees this as a problem, and that I just need to find an easier formatting system for my notes? That the rest of the Logos world is fine with 11 point Trebuchet font and that should be everyone's default? That even though Logos has a Preferences option, and in that Preferences there is even a place to set the font and the size for notes, but that whatever is put there means absolutely nothing?
If it's just me being weird and nerdy about my formatting, then please reply and let me know that the rest of Logos World doesn't have a problem here, and that I need to get over myself, and I'll go away. That's what I'm picking up from the silence.

I believe the default notes font setting is a carry-over from the old notes system and does not relate to the new notes system. I could be wrong though.

No Chris. It just means that the forums are designed to be a self-help society where user problems are solved by other users.
Actually the presence and responsiveness of Faithlife staff in and among the threads is quite good but they do not get everywhere.
If you thinks that the program is not operating as designed then you can ring customer services and ask them directly.
Unfortunately I am a very light user of notes and have never found it necessary to change either the default font nor the size. Both are acceptable to me!
As to the operation of the preferences option - I will leave that for others to comment on.

I hate the default note that Logos has imposed on all logos customers. My choice for my preferred font is "Mirror", a font that I love and have been using it for quite a number of years. The issue that I have is that I was told by one Customer Service representative that the techs were working on the problem, yet I just went through an update, but apparently, the problem still remains.
In short, when I read one of my old notes, or include a new note adding some scriptures for reference, I get two different kinds of fonts, my chosen font, and the default font for the narrative which in my opinion is less than desirable (generic and "ugly").
To go through it manually and change my notes to my preferred font can take a long, long time since I have thousands of notes attached to my preferred Bible.

I contacted a Customer Representative a couple of weeks ago about the Notes font bug. He looked it up and said the that Logos was working on it. If this was a generic answer, I don't know for sure.
An update has just taken place and I was hoping that the problem would have been fixed, but it hasn't. To me this is a big deal since I get two kinds of font notes on my notes format when I add scripture references (the default note font and my preferred note font). To change it manually would require a long time since I have thousands of notes on my database.
I will contact Customer Services again in a couple of days if the problem persists.
As a matter of aesthetics, I don't like it.

I echo your problems Chris, and have my own.

I share your frustration. This should not be a problem in a software of this caliber (and price). It should have been addressed with the very first update. I am beyond frustrated with it all but what are we to do?

I'm looking into these issues with the team. I'm sorry we've not acknowledged them directly in this thread, and I'm sorry you're having a frustrating experience. Getting Notes to the place that it's meeting your needs and is a pleasure to use is one of our top priorities right now. We just added another developer to the Notes team to increase our velocity and ship more improvements more quickly. Thanks for your patience. Please do continue to share feedback on what's most important to you. It's helpful to us as we prioritize our work.

Thanks, Phil, for your work. I realize that determining what to update and what to change is challenging. But if there are other pastors like me who want to make notes and get a little OCD about how their notes appear, then we can burn an inordinate amount of time in formatting instead of creating the notes and then more carefully study said note. To be able to set a default for notes that actually works would save at least two steps every single time I make a note. Thank you for working on this!

Phil. In reference to the "notes bug', it has been a week since your last reply, yet the problem still remains. Do you have any idea when or whether this bug will be fixed or not?
I know that Logos has a Preference Option for a preferred font, but as you know, it hasn't worked since the last update.
In my case, (I don't know if this issue is the same with other users) the present formatting is weird because when I choose to add a biblical reference to my notes, I get my preferred font while the rest of my note is formatted with the generic one that Logos has imposed on us.
Since I have thousands of personal notes, I have been formatting them manually, but it does take a great deal of time fixing it which I would prefer using it for my personal study of God's word.
Thanks,

I don't know if you are familiar with the software update cycle for Logos/Verbum. But except for critical errors that receive an emergency release, Logos works on a six week beta/release cycle. The last week or two are reserved for testing release candidates. Until a bug repair appears in a beta release, there is no indication of when a bug will be repaired. If the repair is not in a particular release, it is reasonable to assume it is at least six weeks before the next opportunity.

According to Phil Gons which has a post above ChrisClark's (3 up), he and his team was looking into this issue about a week ago. This is why I addressed my comments to him.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up. This means that won't be seeing the problem resolved until some time in April.
Nice.

Anyway, the forums are a way for each Logos user to learn from each other and maybe even have a few tips to share.Shalom

OK, thanks for responding; however, in my previous post I mentioned the fact that Phil Gons said that he and his team were working on the problem.
Does that mean anything at all, or should I continue to read posts that do not address my original concern?

Joseph,
It does mean that Phil and the team are working on something. Usually, turn around time, is minimum of 6 weeks. However, if it is something that is detrimental to all Logos users or a significant amount of those user, turn around time can be much shorter...depending on how quick they can discover the problem and find a solution.
Over the past 12 years or so that I've been using Logos, they seem to be fairly consistent with that 6 week update schedule. We sometimes think that 6 weeks seems like months or years instead of weeks...especially when it is something that we needed yesterday. If there is a solution, and there usually is, it will be done.0 -
That sounds great. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my concerns.

After yet one more day of spending as much time reformatting my notes to my preferred font and size as I do actually reading and digesting the notes I'm making, I am REALLY looking forward to the next update...kinda like a kid at Christmas.
Am I correct in thinking that date will be March 4?
If I am, I am almost close to setting alarms and countdown calendars for it. To be able to set a default font and size for notes and have it actually work will save me. So. Much. Time.
I will be the first to confess that I might be a bit OCD with this. But as I get older and my eyes grow weaker, to be able to set my default font size and actually have it work would be huge. And the same with the actual default font as well.
So...March 4?

LOL! I'm with you on this one brother. I'm getting paranoid with this bug that I have been breaking out with high fever!
So you said March 4th is our date with Mr. Fix it all?
Well, I hope is this year, not next!

Phil, do you have any idea when the font note format bugs will be fixed? If I'm not mistaken, tomorrow (03/05) will be five weeks since the problem began.
Thank you,
Joseph

Hopefully, Phil will answer. But FYI, the development cycle is basically a six week cycle.
