COM API resource types: almost everything is a monograph?

Why is almost everything considered a sub-type of "monograph" here: http://wiki.logos.com/List_of_Resource_Types ?

Isn't a monograph a work by one author (generally on one subject)?

For example, "text.monograph.dictionary" seems to me to be an oxymoron. Or am I just crazy?

Like most strange decisions in computing, this is mainly for backwards compatibility.
