No, but I have started online subsequently without any problem.

OK—I don't create simple layouts [:P]
Primary Display—Must switch browsers—Forum software sometimes dislikes Safari—Did not like Chrome either—Nor FireFox

As I noted in the update at the end of my OP, this freeze did not reoccur upon restart. It has not repeated. I thought that the logs might show something useful, even though the problem did not come back.
