FWIW - I still miss the L7 Search cookbook style help

Okay, I've given it a try and while it is not yet complete, I believe it to be far enough along that I can give it a far assessment. This is my assessment of Search Templates. I see the Search Templates as a very effective way of introducing users to the Search. Unlike the previous cookbook, it does not require them to figure out what are the variables and what is the required syntax. However, I hate them for the following reasons:

  1. They are still woefully incomplete especially labels and clause searches are driving me nuts when I don't recall the correct key word.
  2. In the cookbooks, I could scan the examples and find what I needed even it is wasn't an exact match. Here I can't see the syntax in advance ... I have to guess what title best describes the syntax I am looking for.
  3. In the cookbooks, I could copy and paste the syntax to create more complex templates - taking bits and pieces of examples to make a whole. Now I have to fully generate a search for each bit in separate panes to collect the bits I want

I still want the best of both worlds: the template driven L8 system for neophytes AND the cookbook driven L7 system for intermediate users.

PS I was horrified to discover there were zero templates for a clause search.

    I agree. The new templates are not expansive enough. I am hoping that the templates are simply a stop gap measure while they work on a search tool that will free users from having to remember, or figure out complex search strings. I am hopeful that this tool will cover all (or at least most) search types.

    +1 [Y] plus option to not run search when duplicating search tab OR opening a new search using "+"
