Set Number of Columns in the panel as a default?

In my panels, I will often manually set the number of columns to be displayed as "2".  I do this so often that I was curious if there is a way to make a given number of columns into a default?

I've tried searching forums for the answer, but to no avail.

You can't set a default for all books, so you have to (continue) to set it for individual books.
