4.0d: Suggestion: Rationalise Logos search fields

I've put together a page on the Wiki that lists all the fields supported by Logos resources. Believe it or not there are 133 of them. In my view, that's too many.

For example, three old resources use the topic field, whilst some newer resources use the title field in the same way, and journals use heading. UBS4 uses headtitle! Other resources use tag.

There's both a mscule and miniscule, which apparently mean the same thing, as do rtitle and review.

Yes. This is essential to a more productive use of our resources and possibly to incorporating all of them in the Search function (under "All Text").

We're actively working on several fronts here to:

rationalize the fields we use in markup
go back over older resources and making the field markup more consistent
expose all the available fields for user search

Most recent resources will use these general fields consistently:

footnote
surface
heading (currently only Bibles, but other resources soon we hope)

Dictionaries and lexicons should consistently use:

gloss
lemma

Media resources (at least recent ones) should consistently use:

copyright
description
tag

Most of the other fields are either

specific to particular kinds of resources (for example, more than 25 of these fields only apply to apparatuses)
specific to individual resources
not fully consistent in their usage
some combination of the above

So, without disagreeing that there are too many, the variety isn't quite as large as it might seem.

Thanks, Sean, it's good to hear you're on top of things. The more I use Logos, the more I understand just how complex it is 'under the hood'. The tagging (and hence the information architecture ) is a key part of that. It's an encouragement to know that with all the busyness of the other demands on Logos staff, this hidden world is not being neglected. (Though I appreciate any changes will take a fair while to arrive with us.)
