Mac OS Bug?

I am mildly frustrated by the fact that Logos does not obey or pay attention to the screen it has been assigned to.

Under "Options" for Logos (accessed by right clicking on the Logos icon in the dock), I have selected "Desktop on Display 3".

But Logos always opens on Display 1.

It is tenacious and stubborn in its desire to always open on Display 1.

I can (most of the time) use a named layout to move it to Display 3 but even that does not work all the time.

I find this frustrating.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a workaround?

Using the latest macOS (10.14.3) and latest Logos (8.2.0.0015), the ability to select display desktops (spaces) for launching Logos appears to work as expected.

Note: It is a macOS kludge though since you can only pick "Desktop on Display x" which means that particular desktop (space) must be present when you go to launch it next time - else it will behave as you see and launch on the primary display and desktop.

To be more clear here...

When selecting "Desktop on Display x", it means the "Desktop" or space, that is currently displayed on Display x. So if you have multiple desktops on Display 2, and "Desktop 4" is the currently displayed desktop on that Display, then choosing the option "Desktop on Display 2" will actually assign "Desktop 4 on Display 2" to the docked application.

Now, next time you try to launch Logos, it will do what you want but if that particular "Desktop" is not available on the "Display", it will launch to the primary "Desktop" of the primary "Display" instead.

I am running Logos Bible Software 8.2.0.0015 under Mac OS 10.14.3 on a Macbook Pro 13 inch 2017 but things are not behaving as you state they should.

I booted my Macbook Pro with two additional screens. With no other programs running, I run Logos 8. Logos 8 appears on Display 1 notwithstanding the fact that it is supposed to run on Desktop 3.

Now, next time you try to launch Logos, it will do what you want but if that particular "Desktop" is not available on the "Display", it will launch to the primary "Desktop" of the primary "Display" instead.

This is not, in fact, the case. The Desktop on Display 3 is available but Logos refuses to start there for some unknown reason.

Good morning Rod,

That's a strange issue indeed. Maybe check your "Mission Control" settings? Mine are below and all works as expected with launching Logos on a specific desktop/display combo.

Maybe check your "Mission Control" settings?

Sorry to hear that Rod. I just retested several scenarios and all works as expected. I really don't think it's a Logos issue. Have you tried performing exactly the same steps (and same target) substituting another application for Logos?

This is definitely a Logos issue because all of my other apps behave as they should.

MS Word... Google Chrome... Evernote... Safari... They all behave as they expected. Logos is the only bad actor.

I would generally be considered a power user in that, when I have a computer problem that I can't fix myself, it usually takes our IT staff several days to figure out what is causing the problem. This appears to be one of those problems. Hence my original post.

It depends upon what you mean by a "Logos issue." If you mean, "I have this problem which affects Logos," then clearly you are right. If you mean "something inside of Logos is broken" you might be right or wrong. There are many variables which could suggest another culprit. I frequently have desktops move around location unbidden on macOS. [:s]

FWIW - Of the "mac specific" bugs, this certainly has to be a little lower than the deformed library window bug. [:P]

I too am having difficulty reproducing this. Can you provide a screenshot of your display setting and also create a screencast recording so we can see what is going as you are doing each action.

Rod, the title of the application in your screenshot makes me think you have a layout opened. If you open Program Settings, do you have "At Startup Open to" set to a layout? (Either a named layout, or "most recent.") If so, does changing the setting to Home or Blank Layout fix the issue?
