I was just trying to set up a custom format so that the passage citation looks like (Jn. 12:1) with a period after the abbreviated book name. But I can't get the string [VerseNum] to work. In fact any string that has "Verse" doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something?

    The documentation you show states "These options are not supported in Headers or Footers". It's not 100% accurate, but [VerseNum] does not work in a Footer. That and other Verse tokens will only work under ForEachVerse.

    [VerseNum] [VerseText]
