When performing a passage guide I would like to see the ancient literature section populated with only sources that I own. As it stands, I have to sort through massive amounts of literature that I may or not own and it wastes a lot of time. Please advise. Thanks.

    Hi Rick

I totally understand why you would want this but, based on my understanding of how this particular feature works, I think this would be a signifanct change.

Hopefully someone from Faithlife will comment further.

Ancient Literature is presently more like an index. The links are not to specific resources, but instances of a scheme that may be supported in several different resources.

I'll forward the request (we looked at doing this when the feature was originally implemented, but it was not technically feasible [read: super duper slow]) as maybe things have changed and this is closer to the realm of possibility.

But remember that some of us want it to work the way it does now ... so we know what we need to purchase to fill a gap.

For me, I wouldn't know what valuable resources I was missing without it working this way, and as I'm unfamiliar with what's out there, ancient literature would be the section where I'd really depend on being guided that way.

If a change were to be made, it would be helpful to choose within the section whether we saw all results or owned results.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

    Agreed.

This would be my preferred solution.

I don't hold much hope for the "only owned resources" being a quick or easy thing. But if it did happen, I'd guess there would be a toggle.

What if they were simply colored or highlighted differently if you owned them>

This could be part of a more general scheme since there all hyperlinks are blue in resources whether they indicate owned resources or other links of some sort (abbreviations, bibliographic info, logos unowned resources).

One work-around solution is to add a collection section and use a collection of owned ancient literature works as so:

I'm trying to understand why some of the early fathers docs are not being referenced in my Ancient Literature guide.

For instance, when searching for all references/citations/allusions to John 18:1, the guide is not pulling up Cyril of Alexandria's Commentary on John (even though I know that he specifically quotes that passage).

Is there a way to edit the guide and include ECF documents that are in my library?

    No this is not possible.

This 'index' is curated by Faithlife and we can't change it.

Hopefully Sean will see this post and be able to comment on why this resource is not included.

Not to the best of my knowledge. However, Faithlife should be updating the dataset regularly and reporting it as a bug or creating a feedback action item requesting it's update is appropriate.

    Thank you Graham and MJ.

Is there any other tool/guide that can be searched to find Scriptural passages cited or alluded to by the ECF?

The Commentaries section in the Passage Guide should show these:

I'm not able to replicate the Passage Guide like yours to show all the ancient commentaries.  Here's what mine looks like:

Is there a reason you have not upgraded to the free version of Logos 9? I see that you posted in Logos 8 and Graham accidentally took his screen shot from Logos 9.

I wasn't aware that it was free.  I received an email from Verbum inquiring as to whether I was interested in upgrading.  So I assumed it was a sales pitch.

I just checked my version and the software, features and library upgrades are all available... but the links do not show that they are free.

When you upgrade, you will retain all the features and resources that you already own. The free version simply updates the engine behind those features and may add a few more.
