Scholar library upgrade

I am just a layperson but love to study the bible. I attend a Precept Class every week and do a lot of studying and research. At the present I have the Logos 4 Scholar library with some ad on’s that I have purchases. My question is would it be worth the $800 plus to up grade to the Platinum?

The best way for YOU to answer that question is to determine what resources in Platinum are a MUST have for your own library. If the cost of buying them individually approaches 800 dollars or more, then Platinum is probably worth upgrading to. If not, I would say save your money for the resources you really want.

Otto is right that the upgrade to Platinum is only worth it if it has resources you would use.

However, I love my Platinum library. The extra commentaries and other resources have made Logos much more useful for me than before; I find myself reaching for my print library less and less.

I have really enjoyed my upgrade from Scholar Gold to Platinum. I use it to teach a Sunday School class. The additional resources are well worth it to me. I really enjoy the Pillar series as well as the Baker commentaries, but have found the other resources valuable as well.

If you are looking for some solid commentaries to add to your library. Here's a list of the ones I use often with the ones I no longer could imagine going without asterisked:

Baker Exegetical NT*
Baker NT
Classic Commentaries on the Greek New Testament
Holman New Testament Commentary*
Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament
New American Commentary*
The New International Greek Testament Commentary*
Pillar New Testament Commentary*
UBS commentaries*

Although they may not technically be seen as "commentaries", the "Old Testament Survey" series has been very useful to me as well.

If you're doing Greek word studies, the Platinum also includes "A Greek–English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd ed." (BDAG), a required lexicon in most seminary Greek language tracks and commonly referred to in the commentaries listed above.

Here's the test I place for myself: "If this were in print, would I consider it?" If I'm anywhere near the edge or "maybe", I remember that this is not just in print, but interacts with all my existing resources and is completely searchable... then I look at my budget (not so big right now otherwise I'd have Spurgeon set), then pray about where else God would have me steward my resources. Then I make the decision.

As has already been said on this thread in several ways you should consider your needs regarding the resources available and make a prayerful and logical decision based on that. For many $800 is not much money. There was a time when I was in my secular career when I would spend that without blinking. Now it is a lot of money. That said, when I considered the same thing you are thinking about I made the upgrade to Platinum. If I can get my wife to get a second job and start walking to work I'll upgrade to Portfolio [;)]
