Citation Linking and Notes
So I finally took the plunge to L8 and am slowly learning how the new notes tool works. A few questions that I'd appreciate anyone speaking into to help me understand:
1. Are we not able to select text in a resource and drag and drop into a note? It looks like it should be able to but I can't make it work. I can copy and paste but not drag and drop.
2. When I copy from a resource and paste into a note, it now adds a footnote. Is there a way to turn this off? It didn't do this in L7.
3. Is their a way for the highlighting palette to have "Resource Specific Notebook" as an option? It seems now that the shortcut keys are pretty much useless if I have to manually select the appropriate notebook each time.
Bonus Question: In L7 everything I did was in what is now called a "notebook." I realize that the new structure eliminates the need for a lot of notebooks, but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks (especially when that dog has OCD). I recognize that it's extra work, but is there a disadvantage or loss of functionality I'll have if I continue to use notebooks for every note even though they aren't always necessary?

1. I don't believe drag-n-drop of text into notes is supported, but I agree it would be nice.
2. This is controlled via the "Copy Footnotes" setting in Program Settings.
3. This was removed since resource specific notebooks are completely redundant, as that is part of the automatically captured metadata. Every note/highlight knows which resource(s) it's anchored to and you can filter on the Resource facet to narrow down to a specific resource. If you REALLY wanted to have everything in notebooks per resource, you could at any time filter on the resource facet, select all, and bulk move all those notes to a particular notebook.
One disadvantage to putting all notes into resource-specific notebooks is that you can't then have them in topical (or other) notebooks, due to the limitation of a note being in only one notebook. Another disadvantage (which might affect your CDO (OCD alphabetized)😃) is extra clutter since you'll have e.g. an 'ESV' resource facet, an 'ESV' notebook facet, and an 'ESV' notebook in the notebooks tab.

Thanks Reuben. I'm surprised that drag and drop isn't supported. Glad to know it isn't just me. I looked in my program settings and I have "copy footnotes" turned to off but it still makes the footnote.
Great points about the multiple ESV clutter. That will definitely affect my OCD

Sorry, I should have read your description more carefully. You want to turn off the “Copy Citations” setting.

Thanks Reuben, but if I turn off the Copy Citations setting, then when I cut and paste from a resource into a note, it doesn't include the citation and hyperlink - It's only the text. What I'm trying to accomplish is to copy something from a resource and paste it into a note with it including a hyperlinked citation (just like in L7). However, unlike in L7, L8 includes that weird footnote that I'm trying to get rid of.

I actually like the idea of footnoting the citation, but the current implementation is bad. The citation should be placed in a footer and the footnote indicators should auto-increment.

I agree. Liked the L7 formatting without the superscript "1". Why the change?
