Change the Default Bible used by the Faithlife Study Bible

In my library, I have the NIV prioritized as the top Bible, so Logos should use it as my default Bible and in most cases it does.  But the Faithlife Study Bible uses the ESV as the default Bible.  How do I change the Faithlife Study Bible to use my prioritized NIV as the default Bible?

    Hi Rick,

I'm unable to duplicate this behavior. The FSB uses the NIV as its priority Bible.

Here are two screenshots.  The first one shows that the NIV has the highest priority in my library so should be used as the default and is used as the default except by the FSB.  The second one shows the NIV and the FSB both opened to Colossians 2:15, with the "default" Bible selected for use in the FSB.  But as can be seen, the text shown by the FSB does not match the text of the NIV--it matches the text of the ESV.  If instead of using the "default" option in the FSB, I specifically select the NIV, then the text in the FSB matches the NIV, but when the "default" option is again selected, the FSB again displays the text from the ESV.

How do I make the FSB use the NIV as its default Bible as it should since the NIV is my highest prioritized library resource?

Interesting. I have never used this feature. Is the FSB the only one which has it? In any case, why didn't you simply select the NIV from the list? Is your "NIV" the '11 or '84?

EDIT: I do see that the selection is not "sticky," so when you close and reopen, it goes back to "default." FWIW - I don't know if "default" is intended to be your prioritized bible or not. The "default" may refer to the default choice FL had when they created the resource.

OK. I now believe that "default" = LEB which makes sense. The Faithlife Study Bible is closely tied to other products FL has produced, including the LEB and LBD. If that is right, then I think a request to have your preference remain "sticky" would be a good one.

Morris Proctor just blogged about this feature today.

He says, "Notice the drop-down Bible selector is set to Default which indicates the wording disarmed the rulers and the authorities is coming from the Default or Preferred Bible which in my case is the ESV (C)"

If the preferred bible means the same as the (highest) prioritized bible, it sounds like it's not working for Rick as Morris suggested.

Perhaps post a comment on the blog and see if Morris has an answer for this NIV/ESV issue?

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Yes, it was that comment from Morris Proctor's  blog in an email I received yesterday that convinced me the "default" option within the FSB is suppose to be using a person's regular Logos default Bible (i.e. their highest prioritized Bible).

I've never been to his blog to make a comment or ask a question but I may give that a try.  But also hoping that perhaps someone from Faithlife will see this and weigh in.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

PS:  JT, it's the 2011 version of the NIV with the highest priority.

Thanks, Beloved.  So we know it can work.  Question is, "Why isn't it working that way in my install?".  And the answer is probably something along the lines of "Just because I'm lucky!".  [;)]

My guess is that he was mistaken about your issue, just as I was originally. When you hover over links, it does show your prioritized Bible as expected.

As JT has aptly recognized I was ignorant of the exact nature of your question. I now recognize the peculiar feature of this resource. Indeed it appears to '''default" to the LEB on its surface text and not your highest prioritized Bible, while text hyperlinks follow your highest prioritized Bible. The choices for surface text are limited to LEB, ESV, KJV1900, NASB95, NIV11, NKJV, and the NRSV. All of the aforementioned versions are formal equivalents. It would be desirable to have at least one functional equivalent version represented. I vote NLT.

Thanks, Rick for drawing our attention to this. There is always something new to be learned about Logos.[8-|]

Interesting about the LEB.  Perhaps it was just by chance then, that with the scripture passage Morris used in the Blog, the text displayed when the "default" Bible option was selected, also matched the text used by the ESV, which is what Morris said was being used by the FSB in his install of Logos, with the FSB "Bible" option set to "default".  Just one coincidink after another.  [:S]

It would be interesting to receive a reply from Morris on this. One can leave a comment on his blog post here https://mpseminars.com/church/the-bible-for-faithlife-study-bible/
