In Basic Search, click All Resources and enter  type:journal.

Click on "xx resources with type:journal" and start the Search.

Note that I'm looking for pray as well as prayer.

As a refinement to what Dave has indicated. I have created collections of my journals and divided them up by decade from 1930s to 2010s. See below for example. This allows you to focus your search by decade which I find helpful.

I'm guessing you're looking for journal articles about prayer, not just mentions of the word prayer in journals. Am I right?

If so, there are a couple of ways you could go about this.

    1. Use the topic or preaching theme Journals guide section, which will return only articles tagged as being about prayer. Open the Guides menu, type in journals, open the section, type in prayer, and press enter.
    2. Run a search for journal articles tagged as being about prayer. You can do this by clicking the "Search All Journals" link at the bottom of the guide section. The topic section and the preaching themes section handle it a little differently (i.e., {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topic Prayer>} vs. {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Absolution Prayer>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Affective Prayer>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Grace at Meals>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Hour of Prayer>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Jubilate>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Lord’s Prayer>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Pray>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Prayer>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics Prayer in Early Judaism>} OR {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topics State Prayers>}. The preaching themes section will give you more results.
    3. Run a search for journal articles with prayer in the title: {Label Journal Article WHERE Title ~ Prayer}. This will return all journal articles where the word prayer is used in the title. (Note: we have a bunch of updates to ship that will add the topic tagging to journal articles, but they're currently blocked by some development work, which is why there are many articles with prayer in the title that aren't showing using #2.)

Following up on my post and adding to Phils excellent entry, I have grouped my journals into 3 decade collections. What I would do if I were to search for pray, praying or prayer I would select the three dots marked by the red arrow in my first example below and check Match All Word Forms. In the Search Field I would check Heading Text, Large Text, and Title. Finally I would Search my collections as shown below. Note the richest decades are found to be the decades beginning with the 90s followed by the 60s with the least hits found in the decades beginning with the 30s.
