Is there a way to add previous and following verse to search results?

I'm looking to add "context" to my search results. Instead of only getting the verse that matches the hit, I'm looking to include the verse after and before so I have a bit of context. Is this possible in Logos?

If you want context, try an Inline Search from the Bible's toolbar. The default context is Verse, but try Paragraph.

You can't vary the context in the Search tool.

Thanks--that's what I thought. This would be a great enhancement-something similar to the way Accordance let's you add context would be amazing.

Dave, do you mind explaining how to do an Inline Search from the Bible Toolbar? I've looked about but don't see how to do that.

command F or control F should add this to the Bible Toolbar.

The above does the same from the 'two finger click' menu.

Just hit the spyglass/search icon immediately to the right of the reference box.

Thanks Dave for that. Also Mike, just for curiosity, how are you getting the "Search this resource Inline" to come up as you have circled? If I hit the Control F, it will bring up the rectangular window on the top right that says in it 'find'. The only other way I'm coming close is by a right click in the window and clicking on 'Search this resource (Inline). But when I do, let's say I have Genesis 1:1 up and click on the "Search this resource Inline" it immediately takes me to Deut 32:11. Is that normal?

Sorry Boot Jack but I am a bit confused. Partly it is because I am not sure what you are trying to search the resources for.

If I decide to search say the ESV for 'beginning'

If I use the Cmd F method then I type beginning into the search box and use the up down arrows to find next and previous hits.

If I use the 'two finger click' method then it highlights beginning when invoke the click and immediately searches for occurrences of that word in the text.

Cmd+F is a find that jumps from hit to hit. If you want to do a try inline search--which is basically a full search on the book you have open. You can use the context menu (two finger "right click" menu) or you can use Shift+Cmd+f (I assume windows would be Shift+Ctrl+f). Try using Shift+Cmd+F and Cmd+F and notice the difference. I think that might help clear up your confusion.

Ok, thanks for the two replies. It appears both you fellows are using Apple machines while I'm Windows 20, thus your 'two finger click" and Cmd + F etc. 

Mike, this is not really anything I'm searching the resources for but I'm wondering how do you bring up the Inline Search other than the Control F? 

I see the picture you have of it in your previous posting "Search this resource (Inline)" but I don't have a clue as how your bringing it up or how you get there. 

If I right click on the pane with say, Genesis 1: 1 in it, then click on "Search this resource (Inline) then for some reason, it brings up Deut 32:11, Job 6:18 etc. I understand there's probably a reason for it doing that but beats me what iit is. 

Hopefully I'm making it a bit clearer. If not, this is no big deal, rather just a matter of how to do a certain thing in relation to the topic at hand.

Bootjack, your "Search this resource (Inline)" is not working as expected because you have selected the verse reference on the right side of the popup rather than the selected text. That means it's searching for places where the verse reference shows up (most likely only in footnotes).

To open Inline Search, you can click the magnifying glass icon at the top of the resource panel (next to the box that shows the current Bible reference and next to the icon with the three dots), or use Control-Shift-F.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. When opening up the little rectangular window on the top right of the screen, I get three options: sentence, paragraph & article. (I don't see 'verse anywhere in the list, at least this time I don't).

I've tried each one, sentence, paragraph and article then right clicking in the pane and I get a slew of options, one being "Search this resource (Inline)". When I click on that, whether I have sentence, paragraph or article, it automatically takes me a group of verses, such as Deuteronomy, Job and the Psalms. 

This is one of the things I'm also trying to find out, is if this is normal or not, or better, why are those verses popping up like that.

You are asking multiple questions, and I think you are getting the answers all mixed together, which may be confusing things.

How do I do an Inline Search from the Bible toolbar?

Click on the indicated button to open the Inline Search pane. Then type the desired search into the "Search" box and hit enter. This will filter your text to verses that match the search. The options in the box you clicked on ("sentence", "paragraph", and "article") control how much context is displayed for each of the results. In a Basic search (selected on the left side), you don't have the option for the "Verse" context, but if you switch to a Bible search, this will become available.

Why are those verses popping up like that?

When you right click on a word, you need to make sure and select the "selection" option at the top of the right side of the popup menu. Then you can choose the inline search option, and it will look for the selected text. If you have the verse reference selected on the right side, then it's going to search for that reference, which is probably not what you are looking for.

There Andrew, you have made it very clear this time. I have never used this feature before and stumbling upon the subject here in this thread, I became interested and totally confused.
