When you create a new highlighting style, it would make sense to have that become the new default highlighting style so that you could go immediately to your resource and press Ctrl+K and have it apply the newly created style. As it is now, you have to click on the newly created style to apply it once before it becomes the default. I would guess that most of the time when users create a new style, it's because they want to use it right away.
