on my logos app when I go to docs, public, author I see many names some I do not know. What I was wondering is how I get my name to appear in my friends public docs?

This is a confusing question. I think you are wanting to know, "How do I share documents with my friends?" Is that right? If so, I believe the question is directly related to Faithlife (the website) and groups you belong to.

Mike - I'm afraid your screen shot hasn't made it any clearer. Can you try again? What specifically are you wanting to do? Why? That might help me understand. I <think> you are wanting to share your document(s) with someone else. Is that specifically what you are wanting to do?

I want my name to appear in the authors list on my friends computers so I can share docs with them.

The first part isn't the relevant part. You want to share your docs. To do this, you need to both be in the same FL group. Are you familiar with the FL website?

To have your documents show up in the "Public" list, you don't need to share a group with your friend. The document will be visible to everybody. To share a document, right click on it in the "Yours" list and select the Share option (or select it by clicking on the row, and then clicking the "Share" button above the list. This will open a popup window. Click the toggle button beside "Make document public?" to change it to "Yes". Then click the "Done" button at the bottom to close the popup. This will make the document visible to all other Logos users.
Alternatively, if you and your friend have a Faithlife group in common, you can use the "Group" tab of the Share popup to share the document just with members of that group. In this case, the document will show up in the "Groups" tab of your friend's "Docs" tool.

I see this now. However, to search the "public" tab is impossible on my Mac. I also can't successfully sort by author without it timing out to a blank screen. I don't know if this is a bug or not.

What does this mean? What happens when you type something in the Find box? If you are talking about being unable to search by author, trying clicking the magnifying glass icon just to the right of where it says "Filter". Then enter the name. This will filter the list of facets, and you can select the facet for the desired author.

Exactly nothing happens. A "spinny wheel" flashes on & off (screen shot did not pick it up).

I was talking about searching by author, but I was not using the faceted browser. When I followed your instructions, there is a disconnect. See results in the faceted browser and in the document list.

Typing in the filter box doesn't actually perform a search of the documents. It filters the author facets so you can quickly locate the one you want. But the search of the documents is only performed when you click on the author facet.

Sure, I understand. But look at the screenshot again. I filtered for "mike." One "mike" shows up, but he is not the "mike" shown!

Mark, I think JT is pointing out the Mike Aubrey should show in the Authors facet and doesn't...

I just checked for "david." There are 20 of them, but the faceted filter only shows 4!

Ah, sorry. That's because the facets only support the first 100 authors and Mike Aubrey hasn't shared enough documents to be on that list.

So what your saying Mark is to get my name in your list I would have to share an unknown number of documents? Any idea how many that would be?

The public list facets currently lists those with 5 or 6 or more documents. In groups, one document would probably be enough.

I was mistaken about the necessity to be in a group to share items, but nevertheless, that is how you <should> do it.
