Morris Proctor's Seminars
Well, i wrote 4 paragraphs for this post, and then the website wouldn't upload the post. I'll try it one more time:
I've been using Logos since the late 90's. When Logos 3 came out (Libronix) i went to a two day Camp Logos i think in 2003. It helped me a great deal in making good use of the program. Since then i've used Logos as my regular tool for Bible Study and lesson preparation (i've taught Adult CE classes in my church for about 35 years). However, when Logo 8 came out, i found myself using it less and less. There were a LOT of changes and new features, and frankly, it overwhelmed me.
When Morris Proctor announced a few months ago that he would have online access to Camp Logos via a Webinar, i signed up. The event was last week for three and a half days. Mo's teaching was so practical and hands on about how to actually do things using logos, instead of just teaching how Logos works, that every day i came away more and more dazzled, not only with Mo's ability to teach and demonstrate practical uses, but also with how very deep and powerful Logos 8 had become and how much of it i wasn't making use of.
If i had one single piece of advice to give to anyone who purchases or upgrades to Logos 8, it would be to sign up for Morris Proctor's online courses, which includes last week's Camp Logos. The link is:
Today i took his free webinar on Logos 8 Timesaving Tips and Tricks 2 and that pushed me over the edge and i signed up for a subscription to his online courses. There is a monthly or yearly choice. Try it for a month and use one or two of the courses. I highly recommend the Camp Logos from Atlanta as a great starting place. There are many other courses which go deeper into specific areas of the program.

. . . but, I forgot to write down those two books he mentioned for a collection (already owned them and moved on with the webinar, bad choice). I have mixed feelings about this situation. I purchased Camp 1 and Camp 2 on disc back after L6 came out. That is almost $500 invested just in the Camps. Then comes the new L8. My concern is are we going to have to invest this kind of money every time Logos updates the program? The program is already expensive, and then having to pay more to learn how to use it? My mixed feelings is because maybe it should just be accepted that I will have to invest the extra in order to maximize my program. Maybe I should just automatically add the cost of Camp Logos to my investment cost when upgrading. The only thing is though, this is not true of other products. If I get the latest phone upgrade, I don't have to pay extra to learn how to use it. If I trade in my car, I don't have to pay extra to learn how to use it. Same for computers, exercise equipment (If I done so), Cooking appliances, etc. The learning how to use it should be included is really my opinion on the matter. If I purchased a new computer, after I booted it, it would take me to a tutorial screen and would walk me through its features.
Anyway, I will get off my soap box (for now). Thanks for the thumbs up recommendation of the course.

Thankfully, little has changed between L6 and L8 (although there have been plenty of additions). If you're proficient with L6, I personally don't think you need spend any money on additional training for L7 and L8. (The original poster was comparing L3 to L8 – there were HUGE changes between L3 and L4, which makes that re-training much more necessary.)

i don't see any need for spending $500 after each software upgrade. The online webinars are available for $20 a month, the program is updated every 2 to 3 years. You can get most of the help you need by subscribing for just a month or two every few years. If you decide to jump in for a full year, it's just $200. I can't tell you how many hundreds and hundreds of dollars I've spent in my career on classes to use Lotus 123 and Excel and Word. I'm sure the same can be said about adobe products. A comparison between training on those products and Logos is valid, They are both powerful and complex, and both can be used without any training, but benefit a great deal with training. Comparing those products to a phone is not an equivalent comparison.
i'm not trying to twist anyone's arm. I paid $129 for the webinar of Camp Logos and found it to be well worth it, and I made my post to let people know that.
in addition, let me mention that both Notes and the Sermon Editor are complex and powerful while also being hard to understand how to use well. Mo made them fully understandable. That's quite an achievement. I teach Adult CE (Sunday School) and I don't deliver Sermons, so I would never have waded into Sermon Editor without seeing what it actually does. This will make my teaching prep much easier than the way I was doing it using Evernote and Keynote.
