Cloud computing and portable apps
There are two articles which might be of interest in the Christian Computing Magazine this month. One is on cloud computing which has been mentioned at least once or twice here (which I have not yet read) and the other is on portable apps. I found the concept of portable apps intruiging. Put it on a USB drive and take it with you -- no need to install. It might be a way to go as USB drives get larger.

I did but I still like the interlinears [:D]
One thing you should agree with me George, that when you (I should say not you, but somebody) want to do a simple concordance search for a word, you can do it in reverse interlinear and you get the list of verses with the original greek/hebrew word. Of course, what you do with it is entirely another story.

Yes, I just read the article on portable apps. I was very impressed and very happy to see this concept. It is what I have always thought would be the future of computing: computers become hubs. In our pockets are small devices which contain all information we want, have or need. We plug it in via USB and we can work from the computer hub, save our work and take it with us. On the device would be any software applications we need such as a word processor etc, and libronix library.
To access libronix (for security) perhaps we might need to enter a password or a code of some sophistication to be sure that only the owner could access libronix or the entire device for that matter.
In most places there are computers that are accessible. Most of the time we carry our notebooks because we need OUR material and applications. I only carry mine to access email, my favorites and Libronix. With this article in Christian Computing Magazine, I see now the only real reason I need to travel with my notebook if becuase of Libronix OR if I know I am going to a place where there are no computers or unknown whether I could use another's computer.
Logos, I really think you should consider this option in your future versions. Everyone talks about Cloud computing and pehaps we are to ignorant to see that it is the way to go. But I think many many have a fear of working on very sensitive data on some server out somewhere in cyberspace. The answer is portable applications. Acts like a wallet in our pocket with a back up at home. No worries about it getting lost in a cyber war and keeps the owners of their data responsible for their own data, minimizing lawsuits that are bound to come with cloud computing.
Logos, this is a really smart option! Please consider it.

Yes Mark, I like your ideas. I just want to have 2 devices. One should be powerful enough notebook to have "everything" in it and than portable iPhone/PDA phone etc. with all the data and music and books and information I can ever need.There are situations you are not able to use notebook and there you should be able to grab your portable device with synchronized things you want. In iPhone I can synchronize playlists, why not synchronize collections of libronix books?

I had no opinion on this a week ago but I just downloaded another bible software for a friend (a free one) that is portable on a USB drive and I'm VERY IMPRESSED!
I vote that Logos incorporates this idea! [:D]

It is possible to run Libronix from a USB flash drive, but the
installation is somewhat tedious due to the many installation files
(.msi) that Libronix uses. I did an installation of v3.0e
in Win XP and it works OK in both XP and Vista. When I tried the installation from Vista it failed at the
first step!
It uses CEEDO http://www.ceedo.com/products/ceedo-personal.html and an application installer called Argo (free trials available).Dave

Ok..quick review of Ceedo (trial version)
I put a few small apps on it and swapped it around from PC to laptop and back and it works like a charm.
Tonight I'm going to put Logos on it and see if it will perform.
If it doesn't bog down or get buggy, I'm thinking that I'd like to purchase it.

Yes...please do.
I installed on my home laptop and everything went well...but on my work computer...the splash screen would come up and disappear and ...nothing.
I performed all of the knowledgebase steps but to no avail.
This was the main reason I wanted ceedo...for my my work computer...if it doesn't work with that...then it's worthless to me so if you can shed some light on things...I'm all ears.

So you installled on the laptop and was able to run Libronix from a flash drive with all your addins etc?

I successfully installed 3.0f onto USB drives in both Win XP and Vista and they run in both OS. Argo seems to get confused if there is a native installation in Vista, and i had to remove it so Argo would target the flash drive!
Ceedo does not run in Windows 7.
