This won't help Logos4 Mac development:
I hope that Logos had insurance on that. Very expensive loss.
My first selfish thought was, does this mean no A22 tomorrow?[:#]
Seriously, that stinks. Not good for anyone, including the people responsible. Is hardware worth your soul?
Thats pretty sad! I hope everyone is ok. I also pray that the Bob and the company will bounce back from this.
Really sorry to hear that. I hope they did not loose any data. You can buy new computers, you are not able to "buy" data back.
I hope they did not loose any data.
If it was in "the Cloud" then they're ok... [:D]
What a shame. Very sorry to hear this. Hope this doesn't set the team back too far.
If it was in "the Cloud" then they're ok...
Unless it was the cloud. [6]
What if the cloud computers get stolen? OK I won't go there. I'm sure they are secure and nowhere near Bellingham.
I was thinking the same thing. Then all that would be needed is to give the IT guys some boxes and they should be up in a few hours. But allot depends on the insurance company...
Oh great! Something else to worry about...
The Lord Giveth and the Lord taketh away, Blessed be His name.
Lord we pray for those who took the equipment, that they would get caught quickly, and the equipment recovered safely, and if the machines were stolen just for resale or to feed a habit, may they be wiped without any forensic investigation by the transgressors/receivers.
I pray for the CSI's and police as they investigate that You would lead them to the right people.
I hope it was just plain robbery and not some effort to hurt Logos or break into their program.

Amen!
Lord we pray for those who took the equipment,
... and I pray that they would in some way find God's grace even in the midst of their sin. May they understand what Christ did for them on the cross.
This may prove fruitful. Taking into consideration that all processors are electronically branded these days.
That could be a giant can of worms...

Being serious for a moment; amen here too.
It's easy to forget that our God is in the Heavens and is upholding all things by His power....

Did we not see a photo of the MacDev team on the Logos blog recently? Didn't the team leader have his office inside a safe? Did not Bob Pritchett recently post in the forums the only absolute security is to not have an internet connection at all?
I am hoping the fact there are two separate physical locations for the team means there are backups of all ongoing work located elsewhere.
Why would anyone want Logos4Mac alpha stuff? Hmmm.........................
To address a few of your concerns:
I'll be heading down to Bellevue tomorrow to help oversee the replacement of hardware, form an inventory of what was stolen for the police/insurance company, etc.
This shouldn't set us back very far. Given the timing of the theft, it's possible that you won't notice much of a difference at all, aside from the twitter updates and forum posts.
Didn't the team leader have his office inside a safe?
No, that was Martin. Although I have been accused of being a cave troll, I do prefer an office with a window (even if I keep the blinds shut most of the time…). You can even see it in my profile picture!
To address a few of your concerns: Yes, the computers were insured. Yes, everyone is OK. My understanding is the offices were unoccupied at the time of the theft (except for the thieves, of course) Yes, the vast majority of the data was backed up on servers in Bellingham. No, this will not affect the release date for Alpha 22. The only thing that could cause a slip at this point is the discovery of a show-stopping bug. So glad to hear it David...very glad....praise God.

Well this is as good news as one could want for in this kind of situation.
Since there were only two Mac developers and one worked from home replacing the hardware shouldn't be too hard. (OK, there are way more than two, and it will be a bit of a pain for all of them. Just poking fun at the Mac side of the house.)
Thanks for the report.
Glad no one at Logos was in harm's way during the burglary.
Imagine stolen computers had some Logos passwords - wonder about customer data ?
[I] Changing passwords may be prudent.
Likewise praying for God's perfect peace and direction.
Keep Smiling [:)]

Actually, we have more developers assigned to the Mac team than the Windows team right now—seven in Bellevue and seven in Bellingham (if you count me as being in Bellingham), as well as two interns.
No, they did not—all of the stolen computers were assigned to contractors and contained no information that could be used to access any of your personal data.
That's bound to make the Mac users happy.

Well, I WAS happy... [:@]
Just kidding.
Very sad to hear of your loss. At least no one was hurt, but the sense of violation is painful. I'll be praying for you all.
Every blessing
Alan
Well, I WAS happy...
Yeah - I understand. Not only are there more developers, but they will have the fastest, shiniest, glitziest (sp?) computers around. Hey, that sounds like motive. (That is intended to be a joke. [:)])
they will have the fastest, shiniest, glitziest (sp?) computers aro
Bob is being tight with his PC developers?
Remember he has to pay at least double for the Mac developers gear over what he pays for the PC guys and gals stuff. In fairness the PC developers gear should be shiner. It'd still cost less.
Okay, not fastest, shiniest, glitziest - but newest. [:)]

Sorry brother. I pray the details of police reports, insurance, et. al. don't create too much of a burden for you or your team. Just another reminder of life this side of Genesis 3:6.
Far from it. Both teams have pretty nice equipment. A few of us, such as myself, who have worked on both teams in the past 12 months actually have our development-class setup for both Windows and Mac.
The biggest disparity between the machines isn't raw horsepower, but development tools. I'm a Mac guy, through and through, but Visual Studio 2008 w/ ReSharper easily puts Xcode 3.2 to shame.
but Visual Studio 2008 w/ ReSharper easily puts Xcode 3.2 to shame
I tried to tell you guys.
We will welcome any prodigals back to our side. Just start working on some of the extra PCs we have sitting around. There's the Notes project, the PBB project, the soon-to-be lo-jack project. [H]
Bob just posted the following on twitter about 20 minutes ago:
"Burglary of @Logos Mac team satellite office just a hassle. Machines had no access to Logos servers, most work backed up. "
http://twitter.com/BobPritchett/status/16102834460
I second this. I have worked extensively in both environments (more so in VS though) and while XCode/IB has a certain elegance to it Visual Studio stomps it when it comes to productivity. I do wish Microsoft would be more architecture centric though. XCode really forces an MVC approach to developing which I think is excellent. Microsoft went down that road with ASP.NET MVC for the webz but they kinda blew it on the WPF side of the show. I have looked at the MVVM architecture and don't think the implementation is very solid. Do you know what broad architecture the Windows devs use? Is is MVVM or a more traditional forms/event-centric approach?
Yes, the vast majority of the data was backed up on servers in Bellingham.
That must be some neat trick, as according to Bob's tweet, "Machines had no access to Logos servers."
I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but still, what a hassle! Praying for everything to go smoothly in getting the developers back up and running quickly, and the perpetrators apprehended.
Just got home from church and found this news. So sorry for the inconvenience. Couldn't help but think of Matthew Henry's quote at a time like this. On the night he was robbed, he wrote:
“I thank Thee first because I was never robbed before;
second, because although they took my purse they did not take my life;
third, because although they took my all, it was not much;
and fourth because it was I who was robbed, and not I who robbed.”
What an attitude! Glad no one was hurt.

I'm sure Bob enabled these computers with Computer Lo-Jack. Shall we gather a posse and get our clubs, pitchforks, and torches together?
Remember he has to pay at least double for the Mac developers gear over what he pays for the PC guys and gals stuff.
You'd be surprised. Once you throw in the cost of software for development machines, Windows development boxes cost more (last time I checked).
MAtthew Henry quote very apposite and, having been burgled years ago, I add my dismay ot the violation and recognise the emotional damage can long outlast any physical issues. So very interesting to me ... and I looked for the reference. I could not find it, though I did find this:
"March 8, 1713, London.—I preached Mr. Rosewell's evening lecture, Ps. 89.16, 'The joyful sound.' As I came home I was robbed, The thieves took from me about ten or eleven shillings. My remarks upon it were,—1. What reason have I to be thankful to God, who have travelled so much, and yet was never robbed before. 2. What a deal of evil the love of money is the root of, that four men would venture their lives and souls for about half-a-crown a-piece. 3. See the power of Satan in the children of disobedience. 4. See the vanity of worldly wealth; how soon we may be stripped of it. How loose, therefore, we should sit to it."

Perhaps he later reflected on the event, and summarised it differently. Would like to know the reference if possible.

It reminds me one situation I have experienced some years ago when on Sunday morning worship service I used an illustration in my sermon about one man who was robbed but as he faced the damage, he said: "its nothing important, it's just money. All important things remained safe. I am still saved, I have my loving wife, my children, my health..."
On Wednesday, just 3 days later, our house was robbed. As I entered house and called police, I remembered that illustration and, believe me, it helped me so much, I repeated to myself: "it's just money, it's just money... all important things are OK [:)]

What a great quote...I'm going to remember that.

Couldn't find the other version of it, but the bit you quoted above is from p. 13 of his memoirs, which are available in entirety on Google Books.
Wikiquote has a little more info about the attribution of this quote:

MisquotedI thank Thee first because I was never robbed before; second, because although they took my purse they did not take my life; third, because although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth because it was I who was robbed, and not I who robbed.
First reported in Arnold Gingrich, Coronet, Volume 17 (1944), which characterizes the quote as a diary entry. A much earlier report in "Life of the Rev. Matthew Henry", in Christian Biography (1799), p. 66, has Henry writing:
What reason have I to be thankful to God, that having travelled so much, yet I was never robbed before now. 2. What abundance of evil this love of money is the root of, that four men should venture their lives and souls for ubout half-a-crown a-piece. 3. See the power of Satan working in the children of disobedience. 4. The vanity of worldly wealth—how soon we may be stript of it, how loose we ought to sit to it.
I guess to check it out for sure, one would have to visit the Bodleian Library and request to see the "Papers of Philip and Matthew Henry" which contain his diary from 1705-1713. These papers were only given to the library in 1949, which might explain why Arnold Gingrich could have had private access to them already in 1944, but the Christian Biography account from 1799 might not have (Henry had died in 1714, so his descendants might have still had tight control over his papers). So it remains a mystery... I love this kind of mystery! (Unfortunately, I don't think members of the public have access to the Bodleian; I think you have to be an Oxford student, faculty, or staff member.)

Perhaps we should ask, "And where were you when the crime occurred? Can anyone verify that you were not in Washington?" [:D]
Time to see that work in Logos!
Maybe the Windows developers just borrowed them to see how a good app is developed. [:D]

I'm being framed! I was no where near Bellingham!!
Maybe the Windows developers just borrowed them to see how a good app is developed.
Now them's fightin' words!
If they are working with MACs they can detect where the MACs go like the Iphone
They could detect them if they have Lojack .. Hopefully so ....[:)]
