Historical Dictionary of... in Noet, but not in Logos nor FL e books?
Hi power users:
Does anybody know why the Religious series of the "Historical Dictionary of" is not advertised in Logos nor FL e books product page?
Does anybody know how good are they?

Most resources are not cross listed. They are in one store or the other.
The "Noet" store is a niche store for academic resources which <mostly> fall into the arts & humanities. I believe that these resources are mostly "eBook" resources, which means comparable to Faithlife eBook (Vyrso) in terms of tagging/formatting.
As you can see, some of these resources are quite expensive. However, if you had a textbook needed in that category, it might be a good option for you.

Not meaning to disagree. I just wonder what scenario would merit those prices. Students can barely re-sell, and only once. I can't imagine they're keepers. Maybe they just came in a batch. Not my concern, but just seems odd.
Or maybe Logosians are all so naive, being used to $2 average cost.

I can speak only of a few volumes. First, in the late 1970's I paid $90 for a German dictionary of Old Turkic languages. Graduate students in non-European international studies are used to scrounging to find sources for books, paying high prices, bowing before the internet sites that have replaced some of their expensive texts ... As the volume in Noet is priced above Amazon, I would expect it to function as a standard Logos format. But given the available library there are probably few links.
The Tamil volume tries hard to be accessible e.g. it transliterates all the Tamil, adds parens so one learns when "popular tiffin" items are eaten, but it also assumes that you will recognize Silappadikaram (my favorite epic of all times) and know its approximate ages. The following entries cover a folklore magazine, the 11th president of the Indian Republic, an 18th century devotee of Abhirami, an ancient cultural center ...
The Chan Buddhism presents a problem for me as I cannot go from the transliterated Chinese to the traditional characters which I can convert to the familiar Sanskrit via a specialized trilingual dictionary. Here the lack of extensive footnoting also would drive me nuts: saying that fangzhang derives from the description of a room in the Vimalakirti Sutra only leaves me frustrated that I'd have to scan the entire sutra to find the reference ... and don't assume I could easily scan the sutra. However, this is exactly what someone specializing in Chan Buddhism would need because they wouldn't have to convert to another form of Buddhism to really understand the text.
The volumes are worth their cost to the users who need them.

I have absolutely no idea how much those resources would cost in other formats. I do work in higher education, however, and know that it is not uncommon to have textbooks north of $100. I always recommend "shopping around." However...
If I were taking classes again, I would strongly consider making purchases in Logos. The ability to search, and to copy & paste (with properly citing, of course), make Logos far superior to print or Kindle.

I think that prices are comparable, but I consider Noet version better because one can do more exact proximity search, and search many resources at any one time.

Agree, so maybe it would be great idea to have a bundle of certain volumes and offered at a discount price to students, heavy logisian buyers, and super duper forums posters... LOL, dreaming costs nothing.

Is good to hear how your pick depended on your specific studies. I was wondering about the more applicable to us in the Christian traditions:
HDof: Calvinism, Methodism, Holiness Movement, Puritans, Lutherans, Salvation Army, Shakers, ancient Israel, Kierkegaard, Language of Judaism, Zionism, Buddhism, Medieval philosophy and theology, Unitarians, New religions, etc.
They sure look like they would be great in a bundle.
I was wondering if there was a reason they are not advertised in FL. e.g. iffy information, done by secular authors with wrong worldview, or Scholars not concerned with its application to real life, etc.
I will have to start budgeting to get a few of the dictionaries, they seem very interesting.

Totally agree. So I take it JT, that you consider some of the dictionaries worthy If one has the monetary means to obtain them?

I can't speak for these particular resources. I was speaking in general. If any one of these were a textbook in a class I was taking (or teaching), I would strongly consider making the purchase in Noet. If the $185 book were $1.99 in Kindle? There would be no discussion. Since the book is currently the same price, it is a "no brainer" to me... buy in Noet.

These resources fall under a different set of publisher agreements than do "Logos edition" resources. The publisher sets the price.

I will probably buy the one that seems most useful, and decide from there if the others are worth a try.
