The Problem:
Some documents lack milestones; some have unfriendly milestones that act in idiosyncratic ways:
The solution:
For recent documents has anyone looked into using the AAS number as the basis for a datatype? See Acta Apostolicae Sedis - Wikipedia for a description.
. . .I would even suggest major sources also get the AAS added as a second datatype if they don't have it already. It is somewhat common that academic publications require the AAS citation, so having it easily available in Verbum will just make finding that all the easier.
The format in footnotes /bibliographies:
Documents published in the Acta Apostolica Sedis or other journals
The section or paragraph number follows the promulgation date of the document, while the page number follows the monograph's publication date in the first reference only:
Acta Apostolica Sedis
FN:
5 Pope Pius XII, Encyclical on Promoting Biblical Studies Divino afflante Spiritu (30 September 1943), §26, Acta Apostolicae Sedis 35 (1943), 311.
Abbreviated subsequent reference:
6 Divino afflante Spiritu, §26.
Bib.:
Pope Pius XII. Encyclical on Promoting Biblical Studies Divino qfflante Spiritu (30 September 1943). Acta Apostolicae Sedis 35 (1943): 290-345
Milestone format something like:
AAS volume (year) page OR
AAS volume (year) §paragraph
What don't I know that keeps this from being a win-win solution?
