Can't delete a note title

I can't get rid of the "2" in this note title. Everytime I delete it, it reappears as soon as I click away. I've tried delete, backspace, ctl-a then delete without success. It seems I can delete other titles but not this one. Bug? Any ideas other than deleting and recreating the note?

What resource and page number did you attach the note to? Was this an imported note from L3?

I think you will find that you selected the "2" of Verse 2 in the Bible Text, then selected "Add a Note to <some named note file>".

The system then did each of:

Add a highlight over the original selected text in the Bible (in this case, the "2")
Added the Verse ref to the Note Heading, AND the selected text (the "2" in question)
Created linking between the two. So, the title is NOT a line of text, but part of the link from your original selected text

So, because the "2" is from the original selected text, its a part of the link, and can't be changed.

You would need to make a new Note and copy over the content, if you want that "2" gone.

Click within the verse, but don't select any text, of you don't want any of it to become part of the link (hard-coded title)

Hmm, let's see if I can remember how this happened. The note file itself was imported. But I created this particular note by highlighting and then right clicking on the 2 in the verse 1John 1:2 and pasting content from another note.

I see. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I can see that other notes I created by highlighting certain words work as you describe. In this case I just wanted the note attached to the verse itself. I'll play more with this. Thanks again.

I see what happened. When I right clicked on the the verse "2" (in the NASB95) I forgot to select "Reference" in the pop-up menu but instead left the default set to "selection". So the note was created for the selection, in this case the digit "2" and as you pointed out also for the verse. By selecting "reference" then creating the note, I get an untitled note connected to the verse. Got it.

Still, you probably should be able to delete the '2' since it's in a text box. If you type something over the '2', it is replaced, but if you delete that text, the '2' comes back. I'm going to report this as a possible bug.

Update: I'm told this will remain as designed to distinguish between reference attached notes and selection notes.

Hmmm. Then if, as you say, you can replace the selection with some arbitrary text, it no longer reflects the "selection" that is highlighted in the resource.

In playing with this behavior FWIW, here's what I noticed:

If I highlight a Biblical text and add a note to that "selection", the note title contains the reference letters too. For example I selected "
"Go therefore and make disciples" in Matt. 28:19 and created a note for the selection.

Notice the "b" before the word make. That is a super-scripted reference in the original text.

I can replace the entire title and even edit it (for example delete the unwanted "b" and Logos will accept these changes.

If I later delete the entire title, Logos will revert to the original "selection" for the title.

It's not that a note added to selection requires the exact text of the selection; it requires some text to be present in the text box to differentiate it from a reference note.
