How do I include footnotes to my scriptures and commentaries?

include as in read? mouse over the note or use the panel menu to show footnotes AND set columns to 1 (or more). i.e. they display in page mode not continuous mode
include as in copy? it should be automatic.
I am assuming that you are talking of the desktop version.
does this not work with the online version?
