FEATURE REQUEST: Layout Update upon exiting
I use Layouts extensively with the iOS/iPadOS app. I have a Devotions layout, two different layouts for sermon preparation, a layout for having a couple bibles open when I am preaching.
The annoyance I find is that when I switched from my Devotions layout to the sermon layout, if I do not update the Devotions layout first, the next time I open it the place I am at in the Bible and other book(s) I have open is not where I want to be reading. So I have to find the starting place for the day's reading, etc.
This is even more disastrous when I leave my sermon layouts. I have 36 resources open in one of those layouts!
It would be nice if when you switch from one layout to the next, that it would automatically update the layout, instead of having to open the layout screen, slide to the left on the layout name, and tap "Update".

Please allow me to suggest a nuanced version of your idea: it would be nice if users could manually set specific layouts to work such that when you close one of them, including by switching directly to another layout, the saved version of the closed layout would be updated automatically.
The use cases for layouts that do not automatically update themselves upon closing are legion, but as you note, it can also be convenient to have ones that do.

I concur. This would be a very useful feature, but should be user selectable per layout.
I would further nuance this by adding an option in the layout to have devotional resources in the layout open to the current date.

User configuration would be good. I'm not sure I like the idea of the layout opening to the current date, however.
I've used YouVersion some this year (because we are challenging our church to read a year-long Bible plan and I created a shared plan for that purpose). YouVersion is incredibly annoying for when you get either ahead or behind on your plan. It insists on taking you back to the current day, sometimes even switching you from reading one day's scriptures to a different one as you are navigating to the next passage to read!

From last December:

FL acknowledged the suggestions but hasn't made any changes in the app to implement them or improve layouts.
