Highlighting only a part of a composed word ?

Hello

Is there a way to highlight only a part of a composed word in Hebrew.

For example, Logos recognize that the word is composed of three parts. And i would like to color only the part that i want. (like the red line i add on the screenshot with paint). For the moment if i do a visual filter on this part and chose a highlight, it paints the complete word (orange).

Thanks

Yann

You can also hold down the Alt key while selecting to temporarily change your text selection mode.

Thank you for your answers, yet, this does not work with Hebrew words :'( … I just check with greek, it is fine. But Hebrew will highlight the complete word. A Bug ?

    Thank you

I tested it on a Hebrew word before I gave the answer; it worked for me on Win 10. Are you on a PC or a MAC?

If the resource you're using is an interlinear, then I think you will be restricted to highlighting a complete interlinear cell at a time. Which resource are you using?

    I spoke too Fast.

In fact it depends on the word :

    For example in Psalms 1:1

It works if i would want to highlight a part of  הָלַךְ֮

It does not work If i want to highlight אִ֗ישׁ in הָאִ֗ישׁ

    Thanks again.

    Any news on this ?

For those of us who work in Hebrew primarily, it would be really nice for the highlight/annotations to function correctly/reliably.

I started a thread about this here March 5, 2020, where I posted an animated gif demonstrating the problem (I also got the similar responses to set character selection).  I think the dev. team may not be fully aware of what exactly the bug is since it's intermittent but seems to work ok for Mac folks. Here's a re-post of the animated gif I uploaded to the other thread that demonstrates this bug (you need to click the gif for the video to start).  I'm in BHS on windows 10.

I'm really really really hoping this bug is being worked because I very often need to annotate just one letter in a word and when I look up scriptures on the fly I can usually be reminded about the content of my note based on the correct letter being highlighted with a certain style so I don't have to loose time devotion/study .  I was a bit sad to see this was reported already in Oct. 2019 and we still have this bug in July 2, 2020.  Hebrew is important and highlighting/annotating is important. Sometimes I have 3 annotations on a single word reminding me of various things (Ugaritic similarity, a prefix being used instrumentally, and borrowed suffix from elsewhere in the clause as an example). The highlights just pile up on each other on the word and become cumbersome to pick apart especially if reading on a phone/tablet.

I love logos and find it immeasurably useful; I'm very hopeful this bug will be considered important and fixed soon as my annotations of scripture continue to grow and grow and I'd rather they be more perfect for when I go through on other occasions.

[Andrew said he linked the bug report also to my post so this is just in case someone misses this and to give moral support to Mr. Parodi, the op]

Dev team can you please consider escalating the severity consideration of the bug since highlighting/annotations are one of the big selling points of Logos and really should work in Hebrew; the language of 70% of the bible.

Hello, starting the new academic year, in my seminary Hebrew course, i'll really need this feature to be working properly. I have te exact same concern as Jeremiah here.

    Any news on this ?

Nothing has been added to the thread in which updates are expected to appear How to highlight just 1 letter in Hebrew text? And there is nothing in the release notes of the current beta.

Does anyone know if there's a place we can vote on bug fixes?

I know we can vote on features and such just I would give all my votes to make highlight-annotation work in Hebrew texts the way it works in Greek and English.  Logos is so awesome I just really can't believe this still isn't fixed.

I thought a lot of people use it for Hebrew.

You can vote on https://feedback.faithlife.com/boards/logos-desktop-app (the description for the ideas even mentions bugs)

If so, hopefully 'your' bug fix gets traction enough so the developers know it's worthwhile to make the fix happen.

I'd be happy if it worked on Android OR the desktop.

After lots of testing and rereading what others have written I've isolated it to the following:

Highlighting / highlighter (or custom highlight markings, underlines, letter color changing, etc) does NOT work on Morphologically tagged Hebrew texts.  Specific REPRODUCEABLE  BUG conditions follow:

    1) There is more than 1 element in a word, for example שלחתני "you sent me", or even simple compounds בקרבנו (in our midst) etc. Reproducing the BUG on Android or Windows will be consistent 100% of the time when using ANY of these Hebrew morphologically tagged database (I've tried BHS, BHW, LHB, and Anderson-Forbes).

    2) When the Hebrew word which someone is trying to markup just 1 part of the word, i.e. a single letter, etc. is without prefixes or suffixes, etc. then highlighting/markup WORKS.  For example to make the shureq blue in the odd form ישפוּטו works since it is not a compound of multiple elements.

    3) Using a Hebrew Text that is NOT morphologically tagged works.  This is why it works on BHQ (not a tagged edition, and unfortunately also not a full Tanakh).

So now the bug is 100% reproduceable every time.  Our study group is going through the whole TaNaKH this year and I would really hope as I make my notes we could at least have Hebrew working for annotations the way it works for the Greek and other Morpho database-based texts.

It's years now begging to have the ability to annotate precisely the Hebrew texts that are sold for Logos :(

As a Diamond package owner I hope this will be taken seriously.

Push to get the votes to put it near the top in feedback ... nearly all the top issues get done

    Thanks.

In the mean time I'm wondering does any body know of a complete Hebrew bible in Logos with niqqudot and ta'amim (vowels and accents) which is NOT morphologically tagged? Don't say BHQ since it's incomplete.

I'm wondering if I can leave off my note taking in BHS and do it in a non-morpho (if there is one).

I searched and didn't find any but I think there must be since the masorah is in the public domain.

Since we have seen no fix for this over the years, I have created a bug fix request as a "feature wish" in Logos.  Please cast your votes so we can get this fixed.

Here's the write up, please vote and add to the discussion to make it clearer.

Can you fix it (the BUG), too?
