Even with "Match all word forms" turned on, I don't get hits for "NIV" when searching for "ni".
Are you searching in resources (Basic Search) or filtering the Library (or building a collection)?
I wish my software was as well trained as yours ... I'm on beta 3 ... same results with and without quotation marks.
I get the same results as MJ on 8.8 SR1
I get the same result as Bradley in 8.8 SR-1, irrespective of Search engine (via Set Use New Search Engine).
With no Search options checked:-
Do you get a result for NIV's in 1 and 2 Thessalonians UBCS?
In AYBD, do you get a result for ni in the Malta article (where it has NIV's)?
My guess is bad indexing of the Thessalonians UBCS
I get hits for NIV in many (probably all) UBCS copmmentaries. In fact an all text all resources search for NI with no search options checked gets me 37900 results in 1163 resources - lots of latin, some Assyryian but also the NIV.
Even ni ANDNOT NIV as well as "ni" ANDNOT "NIV’s" gets NIV hits in some UBCS commentaries, like Thessalonians, Pastorals and 1 Cor
EDIT: what might cause this error is that NIV's in the UCSB commentaries is not normal text, but a (imho superfluous) link that explains the abbreviation NIV as New International Version - this possibly confuses the algorithm.
I reran the command to set to the new search engine - it shouldn't change anything but ...and turned off the options. Note that only the ni of niv is highlighted:
Some oddities are explainable such as the division into syllable resulting in false positives. But I don't see a pattern in the monographs and commentaries where the NIV appears to be the selected element.
Note that only the ni of niv is highlighted:
Is that the only result in that article (Warning's against idleness). There should be two words, one for ni and one for niv. If that 'word' NIV's is the only result, then it confirms that the tagging is incorrect (do you get a popup on hover?).
find all occurrences of the word "ni"
Here are several of them:
The Knights Who Say "Ni!" - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Could it be a Mac vs Windows issue?
These two are the only hits in the book. Note both are NIV in print but are ni &niv in highlight. Both give me the same pop-up of New International Version.
find all occurrences of the word "ni" - no other word forms; even with matching case I can't get rid of NIV's identify the language of each occurrence of "ni" - I expect Gothic, Latin, Spanish . . .
I've created a case to investigate this.
I get this result in the EEC commentary on 1&2 Samuel. There it's caused by the word 'NIV84', while the word 'NIV' behaves appropriately.
All the errors I've seen do seem to be related to the hovertext (i.e. I've not yet seen an error that doesn't have hovertext).
