Tags

I see lots of complaints about tags going back years, so I'll add my voice. It is too hard to search and find tags because you force us to rely on our memories and obscure commands. So:

Add "Community Tags" and "My Tags" to the tabs in the search feature, next to Bible, Basic, etc. When you click on a tab, have a list of names of tags appear, so we can just scroll through for what we want. Do the same for labels. I mean hello, people have been complaining about this for years, it's not that hard! I feel like I paid a ton of money for a program that's almost impossible to use, eating up massive amounts of time trying to figure out even the most simple, basic functions!

This is probably not the response you are looking for, especially if you are well invested in tagging and labelling via highlights. But just an idea for you to consider, there is the option of using notes to tag. I never bothered much with labeling and tags because it seemed inefficient and cumbersome. However, I have recently started using the tag feature in notes to tag things that I want to keep track of and search for. There is a list of tags available to select from: see below.

Perhaps it is Faithlife's intention to migrate the old way of tagging and labelling into the notes menu. That would seem to be an easy fix for people like you that utilize labelling and tagging. Logos 8 Notes seems to be part way there to that functionality already.

"Community tags" have worked for me for years. They are in the Search feature with the same features as the FL applied tag of the same value. They are in Factbook allowing me to make the resources of most importance to me as functional as those dictionaries et. al. that FL expects to be of importance.

My personal opinion is that the old search page templates were far more helpful than the more limited templates offered today - but most users didn't know to click to move them to the search argument string. I think there are several things that must be done to get the Search truly functional:

directly steer simple searches to the Bible browser and enhance the browser so that a facet may be toggled to NOT
display all criteria - those from the panel menu, those hidden for simplicity (think morph system), the range being considered (verse, article, clause)
make all special characters, e. g. ~, = ..., be interpreted on mouse over
make definitions directly available so that one can see why results aren't what you expected e.g. <person Adam> vs. Adam
make sure all the tags, labels, syntax elements are documented in a single place

Whilst you can apply Community Tags to the text of any resource, you can only apply "My Tags" to Personal Books and Documents.

You have to Search for Community Tags, in Basic > Community Tags, whilst you can search for "My Tags" as a Search Field e.g. mytag:

For Labels, you use the {Label ....} search extension.

So, that is three different methods of Search.

One idea would be to have a list of suggestions (a Search completer) for mytag: and {Label terms (divided into User-created labels and Faithlife labels). And something similar could be applied to a Community Tags search, but you can't restrict results to a resource(s). That said, it does illustrate your comment about being "almost impossible to use" for "simple, basic functions".

I've been reflecting on this ever since I first read Aimee's post last night and your final sentence about sums it up. Although it is possible to search for each of these it is not easy for the average Logos user.

I am using tags within clippings from a wide variety of theological resources within my Logos package, and using the tags feature included within clippings so I can quickly search them later by subject. Imagine my surprise to discover there is no quick, easy way to do that. And to see all the complaints over the years still unaddressed by Logos.

So now I am having to manually create a list of tags in notes, including instructions for how to search them using mytag. What a complete waste of time. I am a busy teacher and resent having to spend hours figuring out such simple, obvious things, and having to manually create what should be an automatic feature.

The hallmark of a good software program is intuitiveness. Speaking as a person who has always been good with computers - including one time getting promoted into a tech support role in a small company because of how easily I figured things out - I have to say I didn't even know it was possible to design a program so badly non-intuitive as Logos. If I didn't really need it, I wouldn't have wasted my money on it.
