In comparison, look at The Faith of the Early Fathers by W. A. Jurgens which behaves as I expect (with a few exceptions).

Akins is basically an anthology of quotations which have been appropriately identified by Akin and tagged by FL:

However, when I select the text, no reference is identified for the selection. [In Jurgens the selection shows the reference.]

In your example, if you highlight the string "The shepherd 2:4:3" you should get the behavior you're expecting.

I'm not sure why that doesn't happen if you highlight the whole paragraph but I'll pass that info along to the desktop team.

I followed up with Desktop. This is behaving as expected. The context menu wasn't intended to show all the references in a paragraph but only when the reference was right clicked. Presumably this worked for you in FEF because the reference started the paragraph so the application assumed you were highlighting a reference.

This isn't a case of a reference in a paragraph, it is a case of a milestone reference for the paragraph. So take the ECF by Schaff as an example - I don't need to highlight the reference, I can highlight a sentence anywhere in the section. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

OK. I think I understand what you're getting at.

ECF is a little different because it is indexed by references other than page or volume/page. i.e. the Augustine volume is indexed. If you were to right click on a paragraph in City of God you'd see a City of God reference because it's the active milestone.

FEF and the Akin title are only indexed by page so you wouldn't see any other reference by default.
