Logos startup sound -- keep it, change it, kill it?

It has it's uses from time to time, especially when you are adding resources and you hear that sound of it turning on, this means for me to keep an eye, perhaps accidentally double buying when it comes on or to make sure I have access to that resource when all is said and done.
I would like to see more options, choose your own or create your own.

don't like the default sound, it's turned off

Same here. I would not mind the option to insert my own, if I ever use it. Too often startup sounds are a distraction, especially when working where others are around.

Current sound is not associated with Logos, recommend not dumping it, but option to turn off/on. I can understand having the option of replacing with personal preference .wav file.

edit: it IS...associated w/ logos and would like to keep it. Thanks.

Jeff,
You have the ability to edit your post for a certain time period (maybe a whole day??) before it gets set in stone. As soon as you see a typo, spelling or grammatical error, or have that instant regret for a hasty post, just go to the "MORE" button on the top right of the post you wish to edit. It has a drop down menu with an EDIT option. I've had to use it a bunch since the spellcheck doesn't want to work in Firefox.

Matthew,
Thanks VERY much.

Personally for me, on Mac and PC, the Logos music is loud and doesn't really do anything for me. None of the programs I used on a regular basis (outside of the operating system) have start up music. I like that Logos has something different about it from the start, but it just sounds...fluffy. I really like the idea of a start up sound. Maybe you could set it so we could legally do our own thing (turn off, set our own, pick from a few choices you give us).
Maybe if you could implement a God's Voice Chip where when I turn Logos on God says, "Go here and I will show you a scripture or resource to study..." That would be pretty fly.

I'm VERY interested in the HOW do I cut that sound off, I thought I had done it before but can't figure out how now. Help index did not find anything for "sartup sound".
Can someone tell me how to cut it off. Now I hit mute then turn off mute when the program has loaded.
I guess you can see the answer to the original question, I don't care for the sound, give me the option to turn it off and I'm a "happy camper".

The start up sound usually does not bother me. However, when in class it would be helpful to have a quick out (way to turnit off instantly) when I forget to turn it off ahead of time.
Having choices would be cool - but I like the one that's there too.

Go to "Tools | Options | General" and click on the "Interface" button. Make sure the "Play Sounds" box is UNchecked.

On the latest YouTube BibleStudy Magazine intro there is a song that plays as the Logos logo is flashed. I like that sound MUCH better. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNpBCkGaXVI

Kill it. It's one of the first things I turn off when I install Logos. Not as bad as the Windows Start Navigation sound, but one of those things that always makes me wonder, "Why do they keep that in there?"
Same with me.

After perusing all the replies, the only question that keeps recurring to me is, "Why do you have your speakers turned on all the time?"
I've a switch for my desktop computer that allows me to use either the speakers or headphones. Well, it's always clicked to headphones. If I need to hear something I'll put them on. The speakers on the laptop are never turned on.
Are there really so many people in dire need of ambient noise that TVs, radios, speakers, etc., are always on? That's a sign of insanity. When do you take time to think and study? Ooops.....that's probably assuming too much for this modern generation.[8-|]
I actually like the sound, but I don't play it over and over and over. The only time I really hear it is when I get the occasional cellular telephone call, or if I'm close enough to the headphones when activating the software.
Just saying....

Just call me "insane" (Why not, everyone else does). I have my speakers on virtually all of the time and stream radio stations. At the moment I'm listening to Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. I couldn't make it through the day without it.

OK, Dave, you're pulling a "George." It's a good thing I can do with the sympathy though since I get little or none of that. Perhaps that's as it should be. It would be nice though if rather than sympathy people would try reading and understanding what I wrote instead of assuming I'm talking about them and getting upset as a consequence.

I'm being myself, which means that I couldn't resist the (unintended) possibilities of your remark! I switched on the Hi-Fi tonight and relaxed with the Best of Buddy Holly - I could also have listened to 1812 Overture or Bolero.

THANKS GEORGE!!!!! I"ve been looking for this quite a while. I went about the way the other user did and tried to remove or replace the audio file itself. THANKS!
I'm think it should be killed. The long drawn-out startup tone is something reminiscent of 90's computing. Windows Vista, 7, Mac OSX, have a short tone. Ubuntu is a little longer, but only about 2 seconds.

I'm in the 'Set the default to OFF' camp. Some do like it. Maybe the option of personalizing the sound file might entice me to have a play. Most likely to be short lived though!

I too work at my computer using Libronix either quite late at night or early in the morning. The startup music is quite shocking for me as I know that it's disturbing to my neighbors. I did not know it could be turned off until I consulted the support articles. Doing away with the music is not necessary as many users probably enjoy it. However having the option to turn it off is very useful.

Kill it.

I turn the sound off, but I wish I could turn of the startup sound only, and keep other sounds... I really like the IE and forefox sounds yu can have when you click on a page... it just confirms what you've done so that you don't sit there waiting ten minutes for a page to open when you hadn't actually clicked on it... stuff like that.
So sounds would be great in Logos, but the ability to turn them off is crucial too...

I really like it! After all these years of Libronix and Logos, I find it soothing!
It helps me get into a good mental frame of mind for Bible Study and Personal Devotion.
I know that I am "barking up the wrong tree," but I would dearly appreciate that same sound - the same length in Logos 4.
Hopefully, it could still happen! ??? With a turn-off of some kind for those who don't want it or don't appreciate it?
Logos, Please! I know that you have a lot of items on your priority plate; however, if this happened in the next year -- or two! -- or three! -- I would be overjoyed!
*smile*
Peace to all! And Great Joy in the New Year!

Please KILL IT! It would be cool if we could insert our own sound bite file.

Enough digging and you could. But that would probably violate the EULA --- reverse engineering
Whatever sound it makes would still wake up the baby in the middle of the night.

Please get rid of it. If I have to reinstall I always forget to shut it off, and it usually plays at a time when I least want it to.
Thanks.

You should set a default theological profile that determines the startup sound:
Reformed- unaccompanied psalm singing
Roman- gregorian chanting
Evangelical (mainstream) - praise band
Baptist- alter call
Quaker - absolute silence
On a serious note I like it as it is.

I'm a software developer by trade, and I've learned from working with customers that a splash sound with music is rarely a good idea. A musical sound made without permission is generally perceived as an unwelcome intrusion into personal space. I have come to agree with my customers, and am very careful to leave musical melodies out of the splashes in my programs.
Whenever I start Logos, I am habitually hitting the mute button on my Logitech keyboard. Thank you for those who shared how to turn this sound off.

I kind of like the sound and as long as the ability to turn it off is there I don't see why anyone would really have a problem with it.

Wow, this thread is ancient.
I keep my speakers muted unless I need them for something. I guess as a result I wasn't aware of Logos making a sound.
Libronix seemed to have a particularly loud one. Ear-splitting.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Not necessarily bothersome, but i personally would not include it. my wife doesn't seem to like the sound when she hears it.
Generally, I only want sound when I click play on something.

New to Logos -- just installed a base pkg. last night. The sound was the first thing I noticed that needed to be dealt with. It is way TOO LOUD, and reminded me of someone new to computers posting their first video on Youtube. I looked for a volume control within the application, but haven't found one yet. Sure, I can turn it off via your Program Settings --> General --> Play Sounds control, but I don't know if that would disable all sounds within the Logos application? (books, teachings, videos, etc.) I could definitely control it with the Windows 7 volume control, but that messes with all the other programs -- TV shows, mp3's, streaming services, podcasts, etc. I'll probably just disable it if I can't find a sound control withing Logos.

Turning off "Play Sounds" doesn't affect the "Read Aloud" feature, or other audio/video material within Logos.

There is no volume control within Logos. But in my experience, the other audio in Logos is not louder than other audio found on my computer or elsewhere.

I don't mind it. It's much better than the one that was in L3 which was so loud it made me about jump out of my seat.

I have been trying to kill the sound when starting up. Here is how I shut off the sound:
Tools > scroll down towards bottom and click on Program Settings > Scroll down until you see Play Sounds select NO

We really do not need a startup sound! It’s like dark mode - should have been implemented last release.

Well, that's what you and I think, others feel different about it - and therefore there's a setting to turn it off (which was there from the beginning of L4, I'm pretty sure about, since I have turned it off back then and never turned it on (it was auto-on in a new installation once in between, but got turned off after it chimed for the first time)

This got me wondering - what exactly is there to develop (and for you to awaken a thread that's way over ten years old)? If we don't need a startup sound, we turn it off, period. Instructions how to do this have been posted a year ago in the post directly above yours, but should be pretty self-explanatory anyway.
Have joy in the Lord!

Thank you very much. I'm still very new to forums. I posted and then found there were more pages to the forum
I was reading them when you responded.
Thank you very much. I have now turned off the sound.
