For personal study, I am linking the following books to the Church Father texts:
- Jurgens, W. A., trans. The Faith of the Early Fathers. Vol. 1–3. Collegeville, MN: The Liturgical Press, 1970–1979.
- Akin, Jimmy. The Fathers Know Best: Your Essential Guide to the Teachings of the Early Church. San Diego, CA: Catholic Answers, 2010.
Both resources consist of excerpts from the Church Fathers but in neither case are they tagged with the original source information. Therefore, the need to build the links myself.
Unfortunately, two issues make the links more wordy than might be expected:
- In Jurgens, I would have expected an index/milestone by Jurgens' excerpt number. But even if the index existed, the difficulty in adding additional anchors by reference would block this solution.
- Therefore I have to add by selection - which results in the text appearing in the Note file.
In the body of the note, I have entered the topic(s) to which Jurgens assigns the excerpt.
The result is a note file that far exceeds the fair use of the original source which should not be shared with other users. When I started, I expected to be building a paired key file - well within copyright limitations and completely shareable. It is discouraging that design choices in the software and resource production, convert the project into one limited to a usage of one.
