Sorting Notes in Notebook
I'm curious as to why we cannot sort our notes in a Notebook by Reference? I realize if we are making notes in a Book of the Bible we can sort by Reference. Since that is so, why is by Reference greyed out in a Notebook? Usually, my Notebooks are based on a Book of the Bible and I would like very much to sort by Reference.

Hi, I tried the steps you mentioned but I do not see the sort by reference option. I only see "Date Created", "Date Modified" and "Notebook". Am I doing something wrong?

Hi David, the video in the link shows the sorting being done in the Filter, but not in the Notebooks. When I am working in Notes I nearly always work in a Notebook and that is where I want to Sort by Reference.

Hey James, it is the same process. You open the notebook first, but then you still have to go to the filter menu and filter for only Bible References. Then the option to sort by reference is available.

Hi David or anyone with experience with Notes, I'm not sure if my question is the same as James or different. In Logos' 'old notes' if you clicked on an existing note icon in a Bible verse the corresponding note would display and any other existing notes for that chapter would be displayed in reference order similar to if you added notes in the margin of your paper Bible. In the 'new notes' if I click on an existing note icon, another Notebook instance opens and it sorts by notebook and not by reference or resource. Is there a way to have notes be displayed in reference order corresponding to the Bible chapter/verse opened as if they were notes in the margin of your paper Bible? Thanks in advance for any help.

Good response and question, Jim!! I look forward to an answer, which hopefully will be forthcoming. Personally, I wish we could sort by Reference regardless of which Notebook we are working in, but that is just my opinion. Looking forward to a response to your post.

For a Notebook to be displayed in Reference Order the Bible option needs to be selected in the Reference facet
Without that, my notebook below cannot be sorted by reference
but with that option selected, it can

Re: Logos 8 on Windows 10
Unless I'm missing something, once again Logos' note feature has built a four lane highway right up to a cliff and when you expect a bridge, there only the canyon.
Isn't this a reasonable research scenario?
1. Add notes to Bibles and all the other literature we have on a topic.
2. Collect those notes in a specific notebook, or better yet, just tag all the notes.
3. Select the notebook or tag.
4. See all the notes sorted by resource, then in order either by Canonical Bible Reference or by a resources' page number in order to evaluate all the info you've collected.
If I can't do #3 and #4, then what good are Logos notes when it comes to research?
Again if there is another technique to accomplish basic research, could someone explain it to me? I'd really like to use the Logos notes to study complex topics, but at the moment I don't see how. I'm open to any suggestions.

You definitely can do this using the facets in the Notes Tool on the left sidebar.4. See all the notes sorted by resource, then in order either by Canonical Bible Reference or by a resources' page number in order to evaluate all the info you've collected.
You cannot sort them by resource, per se, but you can isolate them and display them by resource. Once again, using the facet tab.
Now, as far as canonical sorting, that depends on the anchors in your notes. If they are anchored by reference, this is definitely possible. If not, it is not possible.

I guess I didn't quite say what I intended. I want to do #3 AND #4, that is, select a tag or notebook AND sort within that selection by resource and order within that resource. That seems to make the most sense when doing any kind of topic research.
After your post I looked at isolating a resource more carefully and it appears that the notes are in order within that resource if the sort option is set to resource, so that may work.
I was hoping to be able to select a tag (or notebook), select Full Preview and export all the notes in a logical order to be read as one document. Having to select every resource and export it separately makes that more time consuming.

Yeah, I understand. There is also the option to drag notes into the order you want them if you have it sorted by notebook. There is also Clippings documents.
