When does Logos 9 come?

So Here I am , using logos 8, and I was wondering when Logos 9 comes, so I can decide to buy some books now or wait and buy a package later when Logos 9 comes out? Thank you for your help.
greetings
Peter

FL doesn't "pre announce." However, if past patterns are an indicator, you should expect L9 to come out in the fall sometime.

Most of us just wait around, watch the sales and this forum, and cherry pick the really good sales for resources we want or need. Start building a wish list or several by category. Live on a budget, don't get addicted. If you purchase something and don't like it, you have 30 days to return it. You can only return an item once. If you purchase it again, you can't return it.

It probably goes without saying, but everyone should take advantage of the free book of the month programs Faithlife has. I've been amazed by how many good resources I've picked up over the years that way. It really adds up over time.

Yes, except those months when what they offer is already in your library. But Yes, check them out - both Logos and Verbum.

October-November. Just wait spending your money, buying Base Packages is the cheapest way building your library; it's $1 per resources or somewhere there.

Peter, welcome to the forums!
Whether you should buy some books now, wait for Logos 9, or wait for a sale, really depends on which books you want to get.

As stated there generally are no pre announcements. I have seen release as early as late august and going into early December one year. I would suspect that you may hear rumblings of beta testing by mid summer.

So, I'm imagining Logos 9 is just weeks away now. I'm thinking of upgrading to 8 Academic Professional to get TDOT at a decent price. Am I right in thinking I should go ahead with the purchase, and not wait for Logos 9 in case they don't bundle TDOT as well with Logos 9?

You are right that FL significantly modifies the "libraries" (formerly "base packages") that come with each new version of Logos. There is no telling which one might be best for you.

That’s what I did when the base packages were 25% off earlier this year. I upgraded simply for the TDOT, it seemed that I would be unlikely to get that price again.

Thanks JT for the speedy reply! Do you know if dynamic pricing also covers upgrades to feature sets? I'm wondering if I'd be wasting money at all by upgrading to the Academic feature set, and then possibly upgrading again once Logos 9 has come out.

Yes for dynamic pricing applying to feature sets.

KS4J already answered (yes, it does). For me, I prefer to own my resources and subscribe to features. A Faithlife Connect membership may be worth looking into.

Answering this question reminds me of the old Sunday School song: “soon and very soon we are going to see the King.” Been singing this song for over 50 years and soon as an element of time has not changed much in 50 years- other than I still sing- soon and very soon we are going to see the king.

+1 [Y] singing "soon and very soon we are going to see the King" (while birth pangs increase in intensity and frequency). Day 10-10-2020 (last day in temporary shelter to celebrate dwelling in God's Presence) is a Joyous Jewish Holiday that begins daily praying for winter rains (perhaps Lake Kinneret will be overflowing for Pesach seder on Saturday 27 March 2021 evening).

If too many of us brake our addiction will Logos stay in business?

Addiction? I'm only 5500 in the hole right now... I can quit any time I want to... errrr... OK.. so perhaps I spend a bit too much on my Bible software....I owe Accordance too. [;)] It isn't really an addiction....it's a lifestyle...yeah that's it. [A] LOL
I anticipate the holiday season to bring us Logos 9.... but with this Covid floating around, it might throw things off a bit. The only bad thing about a new version is having to start over again building up your collection with the new base packages that come with it. Perhaps it will be a nice surprise and only a few hundred will throw me back into Collector's again. I am sometimes a bit stunned when I see I could trade my Logos library for a mid level full size SUV. The SUV will plummet in value overnight and break down at some point, whereas the value of knowledge increases. That's how I justify it anyway. :-)

it was the 'having' that blew your cover. ;-)

And in (another) fact, you can buy the upgraded features (and maybe some interesting books), and never install the new software (effectively paying Logos for their hard work, but remaining happily nested on the older version). Smiling.

There are lots of things I haven't added to my library because they're expensive. There are a lot of resources that are worth $1-5 USD to me that FL sells for a lot more than that at regular price. So a collection that sells for $100 now that gets included in an L/V9 base package (for ~$10) might suddenly be worth it to me even though I'd never buy it even at 50% off its regular price.

Thanks, Sin', now I understand. There are, of course, many reasons to buy resources; bargains being one fo them. My point was that it is always a choice and never a compulsion.
Some forum posters appear to think that they must 'upgrade' their libraries with each release of the engine in order to maintain some sort of status.

I mean I do feel inferior if I look on the about screen and I have a yellow dot instead of a green dot next to my library LOL

For some of us it is a simple matter of addiction [:$]

I hadn't noticed the dot either. So I went and checked an, indeed there it was! I hastily clicked on the 'Consider Upgrading'
The cheapest offer was over $2000. I didn't spend long considering. I will have to manage without the comfort blanket.
(BTW I have often heard folk referring to 'LA' in relation to the USA. Didn't realise it stood for 'Logos Addiction'. Seems to pop up all over the place and not always in context. Bit like 'Factbook' really.

My main interest is ”what kind of new books can I get for my library?” I seldom use the tools that come with Silver and up.

All of my "dots" are green, however, it suggested L8-Platinum (which I already have AND THEN SOME) for $1430 and it would add "0" resources to my library OR I could spend $1840 and go to Portfolio and add 897 resources...gee, I'm having difficulty wrapping my mind around spending $1430 for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING or spending $410 more to get almost 900 new resources (that I probably don't need and probably wouldn't use very often). I occasionally see that kind of goofiness in sets where it says I can get the rest of the resources for $X.XX, but clicking the "hide resources already owned" shows that I own everything in that set. 🤷♂️

It should be, anyway. I doubt that there are [m]any people for whom it is an authentic compulsion.

Could you post a screenshot please, Bill? Does the order box have an orange Add to cart button?
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

I cannot get it to save a picture of the webpage, but the Add button is orange on both of the options.

Well, my question is more for folks that went from 7 to 8... how much did you end up spending and kind of for what? I'm kind of wondering and trying to plan. Also, did you notice that the books included changed significantly? Was there anything you were particularly pleased with or disappointed by? I have well enough to keep me good for a long, long time... but am also curious as gift cards are pretty much my only ask right now as we, God willing, plan a big move and sell a bunch of stuff.

Angela Meister said:

Yes they do. A significant source of revenue for FL is the sale of "libraries" (formerly "base packages" which included both data sets and resources). Since the software is free, FL needs users to continue making purchases. The creation of "Faithlife Connect" has helped to even out revenue stream so that there is less dependency on the new sales every couple of years.

When it comes to upgrades, I'm probably on the lower end of spending, usually $200-450 when a new version rolls out. As FL Connect has lost a lot of its glamour, I basically look to see how I can get a library and full feature set for the lowest possible cost. Keep in mind, though, that your base package price will be determined dynamically based on what you already own. I have a medium-sized but diverse library, so I usually get a fairly good discount.
Angela Meister said:Also, did you notice that the books included changed significantly? Was there anything you were particularly pleased with or disappointed by?
For the last few versions, there are a LOT of options for upgrading because of the denominational base packs. I think some people overlook these because of the labels, but really many of them contain a lot of good material regardless of one's tradition. When a new version rolls out, I look over all the packages for bargains and for titles/sets I've been longing for but are too expensive at full price. My area is systematic theology, and I don't think I've ever bought a "standard" logos library. If my memory serves me, for L6 I got Reformed Gold, L7 Methodist Bronze, L8 Anglican Silver simply because they had a good mix of titles that helped to round out my library further. Right now I have most of what I need to satisfy both my work and my interests, so I have no idea what I'll go for with L9. On the whole, though, the remix of packages that happens with a new version is a good thing, and I look forward to seeing what great bargains I can pick up from it while staying within my modest budget.

I just saw a stray-posted Verbum (Chinese) beta post indicating the current version is 9.0.0.0142 (I think I remember it correctly; the post disappeared quickly). L8 was at 8.0.0.0562 when it shipped late Oct-2018.
Frodo looked down to the right at the number of pages remaining... it was going to be a long epic.
