Needing a device recommendation
Greetings All,
My 8 year old iPad 3 with Retina display has finally bit the dust. At least when it comes to Logos. I’m looking for a budget Android tablet to use as a reader for Logos. I’m pretty much just wanting to read and markup my Logos books (the ones that are more for reading cover to cover than reference). I have my iPhone but I don’t do well with the screen for a reader. I only want it to be efficient in running Logos. It doesn’t need to be blazing fast, but half-a-minute long app loading and 5-10 seconds between pages I’m not interested in.
Thanks in Advance,
Mark

Somewhere in the under $200 range. Preferably under $150. It’s only for use as a Logos reader (even might use Faithlife ebooks on it). I do the searching and guides on my laptop.

The new Galaxy Tabs running on Android 10 (and to be upgraded to Android 11 next year) are likely to be released shortly. If you can hold off the purchase for a bit longer, it might be worth it. A mid-range Galaxy Tab costs $150 to $200.
Kindle Fire tablets are more on a budget level than the Galaxy Tab, however, I believe you get more for your money from Amazon. Not everyone here in the forum agrees. A Galaxy Tab lasts about double the years compared to a Kindle Fire, but it costs about triple the money. The current generation Fire generation runs on Android 9, and is unlikely to be updated to Android 10 in the future.
If you want to use the tablet exclusively for Logos reading, you might want to consider an Android e-reader device. It's much better for your eyes, however, I'm not aware of any device under $200. The Likebook Mars runs Android 6, will be updated to Android 8 next month, and costs about $230. But maybe there are more affordable e-reader devices out there.

Thank you. The Kindle Fire is on my list--the 7 should actually fit my needs. My once concern is how long Logos/Faithlife will support Android 7.x (FireOS 6.x on the 7). I do have some Costco cash given for Christmas that I could put towards a tablet, there. They've got some deals on Galaxy Tablets at the moment. I'll have to also check into their price on the $329 iPads.

My once concern is how long Logos/Faithlife will support Android 7.x (FireOS 6.x on the 7).
Android 5 support is now ending, 5 years and a few months after release.
Assuming that FL will also support other Android versions for 5 years in the future:
Android 7 was releaed in August 2016, which means it could be supported until late next 2021.
The Fire 10 is two Android versions ahead, i.e. two years, therefore roughly doubling the life span, at an additional cost of $30.
Current Samsung tablets come with Android 9 too, but will be upgraded to Android 10 this year, extending the life span by another year.
After FL drops support, it could still be possible to root the device and install a custom Android version, such as LineageOS. From a quick Google research, this procedure can increase the Android version of Fire devices by two versions (from 5 to 7 for example). So it adds two years of life, but will be unsupported by both Amazon and FL.
