I know that Logos has put significant time and money into simplifying the search with variable results. I suggest that they try a training approach.
- Once a quarter, they gather up the questions on searches from the forums and the Faithlife groups, grouping requests that differ only by the term being matched. Consider find, inline search, the Search Tool, and the Bible browser as both a source of questions and of answers.
- For these searches that can be accomplished, they provide the best solution(s) showing all the parameters that affect the search including those hidden in the panel menu.Be explicit about the limits of the text being searched - article, verse, clause. Be explicit about requirements of the resources searched - tagging, reverse interlinears, etc. If there multiple ways to achieve the same result, explain why both resolve to the same answer.
- For these searches that must be clarified to be accomplished, explain what additional information is required to accomplish the search and provide examples of some of the possible clarified searches
- For these search that cannot be accomplished, explain what the limiting factor is and provide hints on how to narrow the text down for a manual review.
- Note that the logical functions available on passage lists should be considered as part of the search function.
- Publish it as a Search resource manual on a quarterly basis and maintain a cumulative index which include the first release for which the example applies and/or the last release for which it applies. By doing it in the index, you are not required to continually update past issues.
