This isn't about the Atlas--that is another story. This is to imagine how new users and probably accomplished users experience a simple SEARCH--the thing I suppose people most want to do when they open Logos.
Simple Workflow 1:
- Me thinking: Hmmm. "Be still and know that I am God" Let's see, is that Psalm 46? KJV probably. I forget the context. Google or Logos? [vacilating]
- Type the words in the GO box
- A window opens showing 2,504,725 results in 6,875 articles....etc. No Bible. But the Bookstore wants to sell me a $37.99 commentary on Psalms 1-88. That is my first and best clue to what I am looking for--somewhere in Ps 1-88. Actually I drill down and find some previews in various commentaries I can buy that divulge that actual address to my passage: Ps 46:10!
This worked in a roundabout way if I am lucky...er, blessed.
Simple Workflow 2:
- Drag out the menu magnifying glass. Type "be still and know that I am God"
- Oops! I am in morph search so I wing over to Basic..no...Bible search. (Should have stayed in morph search. It would have worked)
- When I peg "Bible" with my mouse I get this:
(([field bible, content] be) AND ([field bible, content] still) AND ([field bible, content] and) AND ([field bible, content] know) AND ([field bible, content] that) AND ([field bible, content] I) AND ([field bible, content] am) AND ([field bible, content] god))
- I realize that can be very useful in many cases. In fact, magnificent complexity that it is, it works perfectly well.
Meanwhile back at the farm, a few minutes have passed. Then I added a couple more minutes to write this post.
I know. I should just use Google. But I am a stubborn mix of Germanic genetics and, by George, I want to use Logos!
When Logos 9 comes out, I hope that all users, especially new users, can somehow just type basic things in and get basic things out.
At the end of the day, I am a total, dedicated Logos lover and sell its benefits to anyone who will stop long enough to listen.
