Should I learn the Hebrew first?

I am not a pastor/preacher, teacher and know nothing about Greek or Hebrew. Just someone who loves the Lord and His Word. My question to you scholars is, should I or would it help me in learning the information in the videos to first learn the two alphabets that are offered in the videos.

Sam, learning alphabets is fundamental to language studies. Learning to write and pronounce the alphabets
will provide an immediate reward, as what was once gibberish on the page, will
begin to look familiar. I'm a layman early in language study myself, and I found that to be valuable.

I would tackle one language and go through all the videos for that one, then go to the other. Your choice, but I think I'd start with Greek.

I'm no scholar, but I am a pastor/preacher. I took Greek in college and Sem and Hebrew in Sem.

Learning the alphabet in Greek or Hebrew will be as valuable as learning it in English. You can memorize all the names of the letters in order, if you want, but it would be enough to simply know how each letter is pronounced. If you can do that, you're good to go. With Logos there's no need to memorize the alphabet itself (IMHO), since you don't have to manually look up anything in a dictionary or lexicon. But being able to pronounce the words is very, very helpful in learning to recognize them. Some of that happens as you study, but you could take the time to recognize & pronounce each letter individually too. Go with your learning style.

The key to learning any language is hearing and repeating what you hear. If you have a quiet place, repeat the sounds of the letters out loud as you hear them on the video. You'll be surprised at how quickly you pick them up this way. Since the Roman alphabet (which we use in English) is quite similar to the Greek alphabet, you'll find it easier to recognize Greek letters than Hebrew. So start there. The Hebrew alphabet is quite different, and looks intimidating at first, but it's really not very hard to learn, if you repeat the sounds of each letter out loud with the video. Again, learning the sounds the letters represent is more important than learning their names, or memorizing them in order.

I would wait for the corrections. Yes there is a problem with the Hebrew alphabet as well.

You can still move on in the videos without knowing the alphabet.

Greek and English both read from left to right - many related letters and words.

New Testament originally written in Greek.

Hebrew reads from right to left - majority of Old Testament.

Septuagint (LXX) is Greek translation of Old Testament (Hebrew and Aramaic).

In some Bibles, Psalms 119 offers Hebrew Language - 8 verses begin with same Hebrew letter:

ESV Reverse Interlinear has 1 subscript before word. Holman Christian Bible has Letter and Name.

You don't need to wait for corrections to the videos. You may have have other Logos resources for learning the alphabets. If not, search the internet for "Little Greek 101" and open the alphabet page.
