How to highlight just 1 letter in Hebrew text?
Hi folks,
I'd like to only annotate that single letter in the Hebrew text but Logos defaults to highlighting the entire word. How do I change the settings to allow more precise highlighting and annotating?
For example, in the attached screen shot:
In verses 4 and 7 I only want the highlight to mark up the initial ב (indicating it can be the emphatic b here) and in verse 11 I want to only markup the initial ל (indicating it may be rendered "from" here).
Thanks,
-Jeremiah

In Tools-->Program Settings-->Text Display-->Text Selection must be set to character.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Or hold down the Alt key (option key on Mac) when selecting the text.

MJ, thanks for the tip. I set it to "character" as you suggested, then I restarted Logos.
I've verified that it is still set on "character" yet still when I hit a hotkey to do my highlighting on a single letter in Hebrew the entire word (which was not selected, i.e. did not have focus over it) becomes highlighted. I tested also just now with the standard built in highlights and it still gets the whole word.
Have you actually tried this for Hebrew? I know sometimes software will handle fine left-to-right text but has trouble when managing texts which go the other way. ***edit *** I just tried and working with English texts your suggestion works for me, but I'm working with Hebrew. could it be the version of Hebrew bible I'm using? BHS ?

Andrew, I'm on a PC; so I tried your suggest to hold down ALT but it's not doing anything. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong? I hold down ALT and select the single character then press my hot key (while still holding ALT)

Both MJ and I assumed your difficulty was in selecting a single character, so the suggestions we made make it possible to select a single character. You don't need to hold down Alt when hitting the shortcut key for the highlighting.
I'm not sure exactly what is causing problems for you. As you can see here, when I select a single character and apply a highlight using a shortcut key, it works just fine.
Can you bring up the Information panel for this resource (from the three vertical dots panel menu in the corner of the panel). Scroll to the very bottom, and copy the Support Information and paste it here. It should look something like:

Ooops, I wrote "I'd like to only annotate that single letter ..." perhaps I should have worded that differently.
Here is what's happening to me:

It's an animated gif I sent above but you'll need to click on it to see the single-character highlighting failing (so the animation will play).

This may be an issue with Hebrew language (or RTL scripts), at least I see the same bug in the Lexham Hebrew Bible. Selecting one letter by using the Alt key works consistently, but trying to highlight the selected character - via selection menu or context menu or a user-defined highlighter key - will sometimes (not always) result in the whole word being highlighted:
EDIT: the same for BHS SESB: bug is - to me - inconsistent:
BHS WIVU: same result: sometimes the selected characters are highlighted, sometimes the whole word, no pattern why.
Have joy in the Lord!

I made a quick test in BHQ and in it the selection and highlighting seems to work fine.

Yeah thanks Mick, I've also in the past experienced it "working" for highlighting just a single character but it's never been reliable for me and lately usually is not so I had just given up on it. But now I need it as some of the words I'm trying to annotate I need to have my special marks on the various parts of the word so I don't have to look up while reading (they will remind me of my comments if I decide to pull a verse on the fly for my listeners).

Interesting Veli, I just checked my BHQ and it also seems to be working for marking up a single character at at time as well. It's too bad the books I'm working in aren't yet released.

Knock knock, so has this been reported as a bug anywhere?
I think the animation I uploaded and Mick's explanation / screenshots are conclusive proof the Hebrew annotation is not working reliably as it should be for windows 10 users.

It was first reported here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/185662.aspx
We still have an open case for this bug. We've added a link to this thread so that we can post here if and when it gets fixed.

Bump 23.
Is this bug in the works to be fixed?
Is there a place we can cast votes for certain bugs to have priority?
Thanks

Since we have seen no fix for this over the years, I have created a bug fix request as a "feature wish" in Logos. Please cast your votes so we can get this fixed.
Here's the write up, please vote and add to the discussion to make it clearer.
