Using Method 2 of reinstalling Logos...

Howdy y'all from Texas!  :-)

Okay, the people at Best Buy installed Windows 10 for me on my main machine, and they kindly did a backup of my data.  So I went to the following page to do an easy reinstall of Logos.

https://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers

I chose Method 2, and after installing briefly, then copying data folders as instructed, I started Logos.

Obviously, it didn't recognize my library.

So I did as instructed and put in this command in the command box:

scan <C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\rjqpvz1c.fwy\ResourceManager\Resources>

It treated that command as a search request numerous times, as I tried it numerous times.

It is now working in memory, according to Task Manager, and there is no usage of the Internet going on.  So I am presuming it is obeying that command, but I have no indication that it is.

The Task Manager in Windows 10 indicates Network usage, and there is 0%.  So that tells me the software isn't really "downloading," right?  It's saying that it is downloading a book in my library view, but it is really "discovering," is that correct?

I do get a message that says "Updating Library Catalog. List may be incomplete." in the Library pane.  It shows 6,993 resources, so I take it this process is going to last a while.  But I know that, in previous years, to download the library and index it would take 14 hours.

Did I do anything wrong?  Thank you so much for your time.

Status:  I went to lie down for about an hour, and when I rose to check, the scanning process was apparently finished, and there was some left to download.  That went fine, and so did the indexing.

What was scaring me quite a bit was not knowing how long the scanning process was going to take, and not seeing any progress indicators anywhere.  I've been wanting this to be done, and done smoothly, ever since I knew I would have to upgrade the OS.  It's so good to have my Logos software "back" and ready for use.

Anything I should look for that works better in Windows 10?  Thank y'all so very much for your time.

Glad you're up and running Paul. I think Windows 10 is a faster platform than Windows 7 but I don't know if the OS makes a difference.

So I did as instructed and put in this command in the command box:

    scan <C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\rjqpvz1c.fwy\ResourceManager\Resources>

It treated that command as a search request numerous times, as I tried it numerous times.

The wiki instructions state  "enter scan <path to backup resources> in the Logos Command box".

The and  > characters are not meant to be entered as they are delimiters. If entered correctly, the command will appear under Tools as well as Search i.e. scan C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\rjqpvz1c.fwy\ResourceManager\Resources

However, you entered the primary Resource path instead of the path to your backup, as the scan command will copy resources from backup to your primary resource path. What you did doesn't appear to have affected anything, though.

What was scaring me quite a bit was not knowing how long the scanning process was going to take, and not seeing any progress indicators anywhere.

Normally, you will see messages in Library until the scan has finished. If indexing is necessary you will see a notification for that, otherwise you may see a download notification for some resources that need updating.

Anything I should look for that works better in Windows 10?

Hopefully, the above explanation has clarified matters.

Uh oh.  Do I need to re-run the scan, Dave, but done the way you just suggested...from the *backup*??

And thanks, Lynden, for the encouragement!

PS Dave, I'm a little confused.  We were supposed to copy *from* the backup *into* the regular location Logos uses, right?  And *then* run the scan, correct?  Why would the software want to "scan into" the regular location if we already copied the files manually?  I thought the scan process was strictly to enable the software to recognize the resources.  Thanks a million.

No. Everything appears to be running OK.

Yes, right (to the first point).

If you have to run a scan in Method 2, it is because Scan needs to obtain resource details so that other files in Logos have the right information. It won't copy resources in this case, but the whole process is called 'discovery'.

In Method 3, it will copy resources from backup that are not available to Logos, obtain their details, and then Index them.

So always scan from the backup!

Scan will actually copy the resources for you. You can manually copy or run the scan command. This is why you are seeing your resources, even though your scan command didn't actually work.
