Getting the most from mapping resources
Hello.
Now that we will soon have Carta, and I already have the Holman map resources, I was thinking of how are some of the best means to easily access this information when needed. I often forget about these resources when I'm in my normal study workflows. This reminds me again about the Excellent Morris Proctor "out of sight..." webinar tips. This is true for me because I've never even opened the Holman map resources because I forgot all about them in my long list of other resources.
Obviously it would be really great if the Atlas or other mapping features of Logos pulled from these resources and put them into a geography/archeology guide of some sort for when searching for keywords or places in them. But since there is no such thing on the horizon, is it best just to create a collection of mapping resources that can be put into custom or other passage guides? Just looking to hear what others have done that might be useful for pulling info from these great resources.

I think you bring up a good point to improve how Logos maps interface.

Adding to Bruce, I use two Logos features:
- I tag all my maps and charts resources. Then hook a CitedBy panel to my Bibles. This takes advantage of the cross-refs normally provided (including future Carta's)
- I made a Personal Book of my favorite maps/charts, organized chronologically. Which is also included in the CitedBy lookup. This adds a lot of detail maps and charts from my monographs, commentaries, etc

Agreed with both danwdoo and Bruce.
Something does need to be done to be able to easily access the maps. Working on the principle that you either want to be able to see where there are maps available when reading scripture or you don't, the least obtrusive thing might be a marker (like the date marker), switched on/off in bibles with the visual filter tool, that when clicked on took you straight to a map. Possibly hovering over the marker might bring up options for various maps. One would want to have an idea from the hover menu how large an area the map covered even if it were only small, medium large, very large!. Just rambling thoughts.

I hope this is an area that Logos will look into more moving forward. Many of us have lots of books and the best way to get us to keep buying more is to make sure that every resource we add to our library is well taken advantage of by the program through things like the atlas or guides or other new features. I know I would purchase many more map, encyclopedia, and archeology resources if their content was better pulled together in a way that made it very easy to find and access during normal study.

The way things are now, I get so frustrated when I am trying to find a map for the particular passage that I am working on. It really shouldn't be that difficult!

Almost word for word from my wife yesterday. The REALLY sad thing is that she often goes searching on the internet to find maps as it is quicker and easier to do so much of the time.

Agreed... I really wish finding maps in Logos was easier. I have a bunch of atlas resources but spending the time to find a map is painful and I'm not a huge fan of the Logos ones. They aren't bad but aren't my favorite.

2 Questions: How would I have come to know this search without reading Justin‘s post?
And: When I look up a map which is part of a “book” resource, like e.g. within “Carta’s Illustrated Bible Atlas”, how can I enhance / zoom into a certain map on Win Desktop App?
