Reading and text narration

Upon logging in this morning I found an article by David Lemmons "Let Logos Read the Bible for You." Sounded great so I opened Microsoft Narrator (Vista) and followed the instructions for selecting what text Narrator reads aloud.

But all I get is a description of the page I cannot make it read the text on the page. For instance CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER gives me information about the current Item but CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR does read the selected window contents but not all of the text.

Same thing is true in my daily reading plan even when opened for reading none of the commands to read causes the text narrator to read the days reading.

I would love to use this capability ... does anyone know how?

I start the reader with CRL + R or clicking on the option in the pane menu.

I find the reader so robotic that I can't listen to it. I think this is a microsoft problem rather than Logos. ANy suggestions as to any way of tweaking it?

I'm hoping someone will use the COM API in 4d to integrate actual narrated audio mp3 files (i.e. Listener's Bible) into Logos. It would be nice to synchronize the audio with the chapter displayed on the screen.

I'm working on this for my own use, as I get around to it. I have it working and reading my ESV Audio Bible, as my ESV tracks along by verse in Logos4.

It needs a lot more work before it changes from what it is today, to something I can actually just use without really thinking about it.

Logos has already released the Greek Audio Bible, which reads along with NA27 etc. I've not heard if there are plans to use that built-in audio feature for other readings. In principle Logos could license and release any of the known audio-bibles for KJV, ESV, NIV, TNIV, NASB and so on. There are many CD or MP3 products on the market.

Thanks Steve, I tried CTRL+R and it worked the only problem was that I could not turn it off. Any suggestions? Also, I did not find the option in the pane menu. Where do find this?

I can turn mine off just by scrolling the text a little in the pane that is being read.

Nicky, you are right that the Microsoft voices leave a bit to be desired, and I don't think there is a reall way to tweak them. I know there was a coupld of folks here on the forum that were using third party voices - hopefully this isn't considered a prohibited piece of info as it is not dealing with a Logos competitor but rather a way to enhance functionality - like Neospeech. Don't know the cost, but if you go to their site you can hear demos of their voices. They are pretty fluid.

Just do Ctrl-R again to turn it off.
