Has anyone researched the Early Church or theologians who have speculated as to why God gratuitously chose Israel, i.e., of all the peoples, why did He choose Abraham through whom to bring forth the Messiah?

My searches having been coming back empty.   I would welcome any suggestions!

You could look at the Book of Jasher for insights, as there is a lot of detail about a young Abram.
