Logos 8 Basic & Verbum 8 Basic - Why does it say "You have temporary access to this product"?

Although I've added Logos 8 Basic and Verbum 8 Basic to my shopping card several times before, whenever I'm browsing for free books, Logos 8 Basic and Verbum 8 Basic pop up - the product page says "You have temporary access to this product." Clicking on "Hide owned books" shows several ressources, even though I'm able to open them in Logos.

Can anyone explain to me why this is the case and why the Logos product pages are saying I only have "termporary" access to those packages? It might be relevant to mention: I'm running Logos 8 with the German Gold Base Package.

Ben and Allen, I'm sorry for the delay in replying to this question. Logos Basic has far exceeded our wildest expectations so far. We weren't planning to officially launch it until Monday, but it's already gone viral on its own—globally—via social media. So we had to accelerate some our of plans for Monday.

Here's the way we're thinking about access vs. ownership:

We're modeling this after the approach we've taken with our mobile apps. Users who download the Logos Bible app get access to some free resources, but they don't own them. This allows us to change the contents quite easily: add a new resource, swap one for another, or in rare cases remove when when a rightsholder no longer wants their resource included.
We don't plan to make many changes to the contents of the product. A user can count on having a good solid core of Bible study tools and content, even if there is some slight variation occasionally.
When we do make changes, it's more likely that we'll swap or add something than remove it.
When we're swapping or removing a title, we'll try to get sufficient advanced notice—and we'll probably provide the opportunity to purchase it at a discount to keep it permanently.
We'll probably experiment with adding a free interactive, dataset, feature, or book free for a week every once in a while to allow people to try out some of the things not included in Basic. For example, we may grant free access to the Psalms Explorer interactive resource for one week. Having the collection be access-only makes that really easy for us to execute.
Several of the items included in Logos Basic are available separately for free on Logos.com. A user could buy them to convert their temporary licenses into permanent ones. That's probably a good idea for everyone to do.

Thanks a lot, that explains it! I just noticed this is mentioned in the package description, as well. It's just irritating to see the "Add to cart" button isn't greyed out when one has alreadey "ordered" those packages.

What I still don't get: In the Basic upgrades there's a purchase option saying "I'd like to purchase and own the Logos 8 Basic Feature Upgrade." - it would "cost" me (+$0.00). To my understanding, after clicking this I should permanently own it - still the Logos 8 Basic Feature Upgrade product page says "You have temporary access to this product", which is irritating.

And unfortunately true! You don't have permanent right to the resources, as their License is "Temporary" (check in Library).

The L8 Basic web page states "*The features, datasets, and books provided in Logos 8 Basic are “access-only”, which means you have access to them, but do not own them permanently."
