End Reading View

Action Points for the following:

When in reading view:

1. Have an "End Reading View" or "Return to Normal View" appear when the mouse hovers at the top of the screen.

2. Allow "Esc" to end Reading View.

(Note: The "x" in the upper right hand corner is the natural (through incorrect) place to look to close Reading View and can cause confusion.)

The other day I was using the reading view and suddenly needed to return to normal mode and use my computer for something. I tried hitting "esc", no effect. After a moment I figured out that by taking my mouse to the top of the screen the menu would appear, but it still didn't offer a way to end the reading view. I then saw the "x" in the upper right hand corner and clicked it. Another open resource opened, still in reading view. this continued until all windows were closed and I was able to use my computer like normal.

I have since learned that if you click on the book in the upper left hand corner, you can uncheck "Reading View". However, I would still recommend having an "End Reading View" or "Return to Normal View" appear when the mouse hovers at the top of the screen. It may also be nice for the "Esc" key to return to normal mode (since it isn't doing anything else in reading view anyhow and would give a convenient way to end reading view without the mouse).

    Hi Rob,

Like you I was expecting esc to work, I think this is how it works in other programs with a full screen mode.  But this is L4 and they do everything differently to standards windows behavior.  Instead use F11 to put your window in reading mode and F11 to take it back out of reading mode.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Wow, I have a use for the F11 key. I've never used it before. [:)] thanks for the tip.

My suggestions above still stand, but this is good to know.

I am sure ESC worked in Beta 1. After they added the F11 key (which is standard Full Screen key, by the way) it looks ESC stopped to work and you can switch it ON/OFF with F11, which is fine. The dropping of the ESC function might be bug. I don't know.

In Google Chrome, Firefox and IE, one has to rehit F11 to escape from reading mode.

In Google Chrome, to facilitate this, everytime you enter reading mode an alert pops up at the top of the screen which then gracefully withdraws to where it came from after about 2 seconds. Nevertheless, I continue to hit the escape key. It just makes sense.
