What's the shortest of all the citation styles. I'd like something that yields just the author, resource name, and page/reference.

Thanks.

    MLA, generally.

Your question is a bit of a non sequitur though. If you're submitting a paper you should first find out the acceptable options.

    Parenthetical citations, footnotes, endnotes...?

We are NOT doing research for anyone but our-self But it would by nice if we did something to remember where we found interesting 'stuff'.  So, even with just us as the only reader using a citation in our note might be a useful thing to do.  [Then, some time from now, when we need to re-find something we will be able to find the source.  Then we will need to 'find out the acceptable options' but for now just something simple works.]

    Thanks

Myke Harbuck = David Ames ??

I mentioned "acceptable options" since publishers/institutions have their own stipulations.

Did I step on your toes?  Sorry.  Was trying to say that even when we are writing for our selves we should still note where we got the information by using citations.

No, from the way you answered my question I thought you were the same person as Myke.

I'd would have said APA was the shortest for inline format.

Good "Best Practice" so that if one ever publishes and draws from a lifetime of learning, he/she can avoid the "plagiarism" fiasco of SOME recent commentaries for inadequate citation.
